| Go to iTunes menu bar, Edit menu -> Preferences -> Advanced & see what your iTunes importing location is. Do you have the option clicked to Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to Library ? It is safest if you have it checked for yes. ! means iTunes is unable to find the file. O.o _ The files need to be properly added to iTunes music folder before they can be transfered to iPod. Some people get confused with the LimeWire playlist they see in iTunes and think the actual files have been transfered to iTunes. That's not the case, a playlist is simply a document that points the player to where the songs are, in this case the LW download folder. There's a no. of ways you can get the songs into iTunes library: * A 1st iTunes File menu > Add to Library... & select the songs to add. Hold SHIFT key for selecting multiple songs. * B Drag & drop the songs onto iTunes Library icon above the playlists. This can be via your Saved Files or Shared folders or directly via LW's Library window. * C Create a Playlist within LW. Save it with a unique name & as an m3u file. Then import that playlist into iTunes. Then go to iTunes menu >Advanced>Consolidate Library. This will copy the actual files to iTunes own library folders. * D Launch your new songs from LW's Library>Saved Files folder whilst iTunes is your default player. Once iTunes opens it will copy the songs to its music library. But make sure LW's media player is disabled & also, iTunes menu>Preferences>Advanced & Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library option is ticked! LW's menu bar>Tools>Options>Player & uncheck option to disable LW's media player. Setting default audio program Also see these - iTunes Tutorial: iTunes Tutorial _. iPod Tutorial: http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/tutorial/index.html (see bottom of post #14 below for video tutorials.) (* Don't get confused if you see the LimeWire playlist in iTunes. It is simply a playlist which can be played but not copied or burnt & the song files still exist in your LW download folder. So follow the instructions here to properly add them to iTunes Library.) * A The most obvious way to add files to your iTunes Music Folder directly is via using the Control & O keys. Hold down the SHIFT key to select more than one file at once; the example shows how to add via the Add control & select multiple files at one time. ![]() Last edited by Lord of the Rings : 1 Day Ago at 09:41 PM. |

| * B 1. You can select Saved Files folder in LW & press Explore button & the folder will open up for you. Then you can drag & drop songs from there to iTunes. Select multiple files at once by holding down the SHIFT key as you select them. ![]() Last edited by Lord of the Rings : 1 Day Ago at 09:45 PM. |

| * B 2. Whilst you can drag & drop songs from the desktop to iTunes, you can also drag & drop them directly from LW's Library window. _ (click image below to see larger view) __ (* Warning: this technique may not work properly in recent LW versions. But does need to be done from the correctly chosen folder.) Drag-to-iTunes-Lib2e.gif Last edited by Lord of the Rings : 3 Days Ago at 06:51 PM. |

| Oh & just in regard to saving Playlists within LW. Point 3 is how you add your songs to the playlist. When you decide to save the playlist (point 7) yo ucan save it as a m3u playlist file. This file can be opened by iTunes, Winamp & most likely most other players that can import m3u playlist files. (Likewise LW can import a Winamp playlist file.) | Does anyone have an easy way to delete or remove songs once they have been loaded on to a mini Ipod? I took them out of my library (I think) by clicking on CLEAR becuse my son and I share a playlist. So, either I need to create two playlists (which I don't know how to do) or learn to remove songs that on or the other of us does not want. I am afraid if I plug in his ipod to the computer now, and the songs are not on the list, it'll clear them all off of his ipod. Too confusing? HELP?? |

| iPod Forum (click on link) is a worthwhile place for both Windows, Mac & Linux users of iPod to check out. There's a forum, freeware available to help you, etc. Check it out! There's also iTunes forum sections for windows & mac users. Worth knowing about is ipod reverse music transfer which is about extracting your songs from iPod back to your or another computer. There's different 3rd party utilities which can do this for mac & windows. Mac users should see iTunes & iPod issues for Mac OSX To copy songs to iPod without iTunes: Anapod, or ephPod / EphPod, or MediaMonkey & also see iPod Utilities. WinAmp using ml iPod plug-in. More can be found at the iPod forum. For videos, they need to be either mpeg 4 or H.264 format. So probably best to aim to get a hold of those video format files. Mac OSX users who have QuickTime Pro can convert other formats easily to either of these formats. There's now other free programs for OSX users to convert easily (search the apple site.) For windows users, see Video to iTunes/iPod. One conversion tool for windows users is 3GP & how to use it & also Videora iPod Converter (free/donateware) & others are in development. Others I've seen are not free & had mixed reports about them. To copy them without iTunes: Anapod is one. But again, either the iPod/iTunes forum is a good place to search for up-to-date articles about this or the apple forum. More about 'how to use' Videora & 'other' techniques of converting video from different sources to iPod see HERE (for links). The 5 Rs (Reset, Retry, Restart, Reinstall, Restore) ucats it sounds like you need to manually add & remove songs from your iPod. 'Manually Manage Songs & Playlists.'
