Dear LW Guys

Is the link provided by diablo32 to a real copy of LW Pro or something else masquerading as LW Pro?

UK Bob

PS. An attempted attack was made on PC less than 2 minutes after I looked at that website diablo32 link lead to.

I wonder if the visit and the attack are related.

did u downloade the limewire pro or just visited the link? What exactly do u mean by attack?please specify coz i downloaded it from this link and works fine for me.

Hi diablo32

The attack:

I clicked on the link and looked at the page, it seemed strange that someone else was offering LW Pro for free when it costs $18.88 from Limewire.com.

Anyway, I closed the page and started write a reply to your post when Nortons warned me that someone was trying to access my PC through a port commonly used by a Trojan.

At a guess, I was on the web page long enough for my IP address to be captured and long enough for an auto attack to be launched. If I did not have my (Norton) firewall I would have been infected with something.

Now, I could be blaming this web page unfairly and it is possible that I could have been attacked by someone monitoring this forum or an autobot or worm, at this stage I just don't know.

Note, I did not download anything or action anything that could lead to a download.

UK Bob

PS. Next time, if there is a next time, I'll trace the attack.

well,let me see?
no matter how long u stay on that web page the only ones who can capture ur ip will be admins at filefront.com which is one the worlds biggest sites for file sharing and uploading. And i cant see any reason why they would be so interested to attack ur system.
The only thing i can think of is perhaps u got infected by some virus earlier which could be connecting to internet at that moment.

Well, I don't think you're right on this one, Nortons said something was trying to get in not out. And no, I don't think one of the biggest file sharers in the world would launch attacks on visiting PCs.

It is more than likely that I was attacked by a bot or a worm.

It only goes to show that everyone surfing the internet should have at least a firewall and anti-virus protection.
