get your $$$ BACK!!!(music members)

I've posted this same post in several areas of this site...(mods, please forgive my inexperience in this site...I'm just trying to help a few people out!) ;)

I was able to get a full refund from the "rip off" site...here's a copy of my chat...maybe this will help someone...please note my conversation was very "matter of fact"...and I wasn't about to settle for anything less than a full refund...

It's important to remain "on course", and as frustrating as it is, you have to keep in mind that the person you're speaking to is simply doing a job that he/her hates anyway...so I'd strongy advise to not get angry or abusive with that person

Powered by SightMaxWelcome to Downloading Support.

mena will be right with you.

mena - Welcome to our live webchat service, how may I assist you today?

ME - I'd like to cancel my 7 day free trial please

mena - what is the problem you are having?

ME - i wasn't impressed with the service

mena - why is that?

ME - well, to be honest, I was told I've been overcharged, and it's a free service...and I thought that before I proceeded with a dispute with my cc company, I'd just have you folks honor the 7 day no risk trial as advertised on the web site

mena - what were you looking for when you signed up?

ME - what information do you need from to cancel the charges?

ME - a reliable p2p download site

mena - that is what this is

ME - like I said, I'm not here to either debate, argue, answer any questions...other than what information do you need from me in order to cancel...???

ME - there's nothing you can do...although I appreciate the offer...now...what information do you need for me to have this canceled...???

Got Your Money Back

Well Done Edge.

If most newbies were as diligent as you there would not be a flourishing scamming industry.

Unfortunately, most newbies can’t remember the scam-site they went to, do not make a note of the terms and conditions, do not know what they are actually paying for and, above all, do not know who or what they have actually paid.

Glad to see the scammers do not have it all their own way.

TheEdge43725 September 2nd, 2005 10:25 AM

yeah...well...

I might not be the brightest "bulb in the box"...but I refrained from being rude, or allowing my anger or frustration come through my conversation & stayed persistant. These companies claim to be legit, and the last thing they need or want is a bunch of CC companies giving them a bad wrap.

I suppose it is legal, but I seriously question the moralality of companies that take advantage of people for a few bucks.

If I can be of any assistance in helping someone else out there recoup their money, please, just let me know.

sweeth4796 September 2nd, 2005 05:55 PM

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

YOU SAVED ME! I READ YOUR POST AND CALLED THE PEOPLE THAT CHARGED ME AND THEY ARE REFUNDING. I THINK IT IS THE SAME COMPANY. MP3 DOWNLOADING IT IS CALLED. ANYWAY....SAME PRICE, 10-15 DAYS 4 REFUND. I CANT THANK YOU ENOUGH. DID YOU ACTUALLY GET THE MONEY BACK IN YOUR ACCOUNT? THEY SAID THEY WERE SENDING ME A CONFIRMATION EMAIL BUT AS OF YET I STILL HAVENT RECEIVED IT. IT JUST SEEMED TO EASY.

GREAT JOB!!! Yes, so far I was told I would get a refund, it hasn't been 10-15 days thus far...I'll certainly keep you posted as to what happens ...

I feel like a fool

I can't believe I was so foolish.
I signed up today for limewire.
It said it was $24 I was charged an additional $18 for movies.
A total of $52.
Whats the worst is that I was so unhappy with the downloading I decided to cancel right away.( same day same hour)
I have been stuck in a catch 22 all day.
Now I have stumbled upon you. I wish I had found you first.
I don't know where to start.
Please,Please Help
Thank you
Cathie

You did Totally all the right Things  :D

Cathy

Go to the page where you 1st signed up, you can probably find it in your browsers history...you probably got an automated e mail from them...mine had a live chat option, and I spoke directly with someone via the internet. The result is posted above.

You might also call your CC company and give them the "heads up"...they might not be able to do anything until the charge posts, but don't give up!!!...I hope this helps, if you need further assistance from me, please post it in here.

cathieg September 6th, 2005 06:34 PM

Edge,
Thank you So much.
I went back to my confirmation letter, and they have a live chat link. Of course it is closed now, but tomorrow I will chat with them.
I called my cc today, The sale is still in limbo for another couple of days. When it goes through I can dispute it.
Thanks again
Cathie

TheEdge43725 September 7th, 2005 02:29 PM

Let me know how it goes Cathie... ;)

canceling

Where do you go to cancel I got limewire for my son and he hates it big mistake but I can't figure out where to cancel

6_pac September 17th, 2005 10:34 PM

If you bought Pro there's no refund. Thats because they give a free version to try as long as you like, so if you decide to buy Pro you know what your getting.
If you didn't get it from the offical site (http://www.limewire.com/english/content/download.shtml)
Then you probably got scammed. Read through the posts above yours and also this link: Membership?. Good luck.

wondering why September 18th, 2005 06:21 AM

Ripped off as well

I also purchased from the same site, its 8 days today, every day last week I tried to contact them but to no avail, their live chat service is never open, Im in Oz and I know our time is different but Ive tried all hours and as for phone help they had posted that they were having tech difficulties and their lines were down. If anyone has a toll free number I could try it would be muchly appreciated, but only if it is toll free because if its not it would cost more in the call than what I would get in a refund LOL:p

6_pac September 18th, 2005 09:12 AM

If you used a CC you can contact them and dispute the charges.

Lord of the Rings September 18th, 2005 09:20 AM

wondering why: I think you'll find that your bank/CC company will have a special department that deals with scams. Explain to them it was a scam site & you didn't get what you paid for & you lost your money.

wondering why September 19th, 2005 04:53 AM

Thanks guys, Ill get on to that, see how I go!

wnitschkeh September 19th, 2005 01:27 PM

i got my money back!!!!!!!

I too was scammed by freemusic.com or IP-MP3 support.net they charged me 27.76 on my credit card. I called them it was pretty handy that my credit card company had their phone number on the charge. When the girl asked me how she could help me I told her I wanted the 27.76 off my account. I told her that I knew they were a scam and that when I got on the the actual Limewire page it was a free service and that they gave me a corupt system that I couldn't even get off my computer till I talked to you guys thanks again. She started to get a little pissy with me but I told her that I knew it was a scam and she told me that, that was my opinion, I said no that's everyones opinion on this forum and I'm sure that better business bureau or whoever would listen would think so too. Needless to say I will be receiving my money back in 8 to 10 working days. If anyone else needs to get a hold of this company the number is 1-886-488-0790. I sure hope someone gets something out of this because I went thru hell for 2 days just to get the 4.8 version off. Good Luck to all.

TheEdge43725 September 19th, 2005 04:40 PM

UPDATE !!!

Just fyi...I did in fact get my refund...actually, there was an error on their part and I received $1.26 more than the initial charge...hardly worth my time or the hassle, but I got it back!

agbarnes October 30th, 2005 06:55 AM

Who did you call to get someone? I can't find anyone!

cla408 November 3rd, 2005 07:26 PM

great!

when i was looking through the limewire site to find out how to cancel and get my refund, i found where it could be downloaded for free. thinking i had purchased PRO, i tried to get help through that link. it didnt recognize my email address. so i came to search the forums and found this! now, thanks to all this info, i may have a chance to find where i 'bought' the free basic program. anybody else feel like a complete moron?

agbarnes November 4th, 2005 01:28 PM

Money Back!

Thanks to all these replies i am finally getting some action. i called the company that charged me and all i can get is a busy signal ....so i have turned it over to my bank and they will get action against this company! Thanks to all that has helped!!

v2freak January 22nd, 2006 07:53 PM

That's great Edge! It's too late for me now...I signed up a long time ago for americamp3network.com which isn't even a valid site anymore.

Venom_3_12 January 23rd, 2006 11:03 AM

How I handled it.....

I also have had a run-in with said scammers. Kudos to those that have received refunds, I have been waiting for 2 weeks after being told that I would receive a refund. A note for those that actually manage to make contact with the company, here are some pointers I used (besides calling your CC Company). Keep in mind that I was a member for 3 months before asking for a refund!

1. Be direct and to the point like Edge said, don't be rude(I know, hard)
2. Check the website where you registered and read the fine print looking for "Satisfaction Guaranteed", "100% Satisfaction", or something to that effect and either print or save the page to your desktop.
3. Save any and ALL email you receive from them (I'll tell you why in a minute).

In my situation, after I found I was scammed (mp3downloadhq) I blew it off for 2 1/2 months until I told myself that they weren't going to win. I managed to get ahold of a representative via a phone number posted on one of these threads. I asked for a refund and the guy laughed at me saying that it was 2 months too late, until I told him that I had asked for a refund a couple days after signing up (not really true but got his attention). I mentioned that I had the emails I received from support sitting right in front of me (also not really true). After a couple minutes of being on hold, most likely from the rep having to ask his supervisor (the guy eating Cheetoh's next to him on the couch) how they wanted to handle the situation, I told him I would be more than happy to send screenshots of the email (refer to Step 3 above). Again, I was put on hold. Upon his return I was informed that I would receive a FULL refund. I said thank you, have a nice day and hung up.

Now, had he required me to send the non-existant screenshots I had to use an HTML editor, and even Word to an extent to alter the text/date/email address/etc. to conform to what may look like an official response from them. Then I took a screenshot of this edited email. Not really an honest way, but it was how I dealt with them.

The lesson that I learned is that making "threats" in this matter, as apposed to "I'm gonna tear your head off and..." are much more effective. In this case, they probably knew that they don't track what they send or receive, hoping that the customer doesn't either. Simply informing them that I had such documents probably worried them and rather than prolonging the process they just refunded it. Just some random thoughts from me...

HELP GETTING MY MONEY

This may sound like a daft question but can someone tell me if I am calling a "toll free" number in the states from the UK do I get charged for it? I too have been scammed but the company that done it does not have live chat so my only option to cancel " 7 day free trial is to call tham"

Cheers,

kerjak.

birdy March 4th, 2006 06:57 PM

Not sure (you might still have to pay for the international connection) but I think that you should call your phone company & ask them. They'll be able to tell you for sure.

Before you get hold of the scammers, read this whole thread...it'll give you some good ideas about how to deal with them.

Good luck:)

Venom_3_12 March 7th, 2006 06:55 AM

Update, help for Kerjak

An update to my earlier post, which stated it was 2 weeks. I finally received my full refund about a week after my original post.

Now, kerjak, details on the company is huge. What is their name, website, etc. make sure you make copies of the guarantee on their site. I'm sure that you will want to speak with them in person, but I'm also sure that they'll have some type contact info email, online form, etc. to inform them of your refund request. This is a MUST DO IMMEDIATELY!! I agree that calling may be required but you must get the ball rolling with the first email contact in the required time frame. These company's general switch numbers so often that if it comes down to it, you say that the number you called was no longer active. Another word of advice, every time you visit the site right down the contact information (phone, email, etc). You will be amazed at how fast and how often they change. This can be your advantage if you tell them a list of phone numbers that they have used.

In wrapping up, you will more than likely need to call to get any where with these un-company's, but the fact that you showed an effort to contact them will go a long way to protecting your ***...ets....;)

Hope this helps, keep us informed......
Good luck,

Venom

kerjak March 7th, 2006 01:42 PM

Thanks for info guys. I can't find e-mail adress for these bunch of w#nkers and they don't have live web chat listed. Only way to contact them is to phone US and that will probably cost me just as much on phone bill. Their web address is MP3Musichq.com. I've contacted CC comapany and they will dispute but not holding out for a refund. Might get back the money I paid for "Pro" as this is technically theft. I got limewire just ended up paying £14.88 for the pleasure. CC company get about 3-4 calls per day about these and they advised they know what they are doing. They say they answer every call witinn 90 seconds, their toll free number is 1-866-978-5522. Feel free to call them and give them some abuse on my behalf. This is the link they use from Google http://www.mp3musichq.com/me/index.a...4&kw=limewire. Thet also have a 1OO% 7 day no quibble money back guarantee with a $9.95 handling charge which I never read originally. So that charge (£5.60) plus phone call to get it probably not worth bothering about.

Never mind you live and learn. you know it's not so much the money it's my pride that's hurt, can't believe I got done like that. Thanks for the replies/advice fellow limewires.

Cheers,

kerjak.

Venom_3_12 March 7th, 2006 03:31 PM

Kerjak

If memory serves me, support@mp3musichq.com should be their customer service email addy. Almost all of the websites use the same anyway.
ex. www.mp3musichq.com = support@mp3musichq.com
www.allcoolmusic.com = support@allcoolmusic.com
Fairly simple plan if you ask me. If you scroll down on the main web page, even the one you mentioned in your post, there is a Customer Service address there. Pump that addy into your email and plug away. Make sure you give them your order ID, total charges, etc. I just copy/pasted from the receipt I received in my welcome email.
As a side note, these are the numbers for your site at the time of this writing. Check back in a week or so and see if they are the same. You might be surprised!

USA
Billing: 1-866-978-5522 (toll free)
Tech: 1-408-512-1933

International Calls
Billing or Tech Support, call: 1-408-512-1933

I would do it, I went after them after 3 months simply because of pride. Ask them how to unsubscribe and get a refund. Also, play as dumb as you can regarding the "handling charge". Contact the phone company and check to see the charges for making the call. I noticed they have an international number on there (1-408-512-1933), maybe give the phone company the number and see if they can tell you the charges...... Sounds like a lot of work, but to do nothing only makes these guys want to feed off the next person even more. Plus, the more info and experience that we put into this thread, the more it'll help the next person.

Good luck :)

kerjak March 8th, 2006 02:42 AM

Venom_3_12

After I posted last night night I got angry and thought don't care how much call is I WANT MY MONEY BACK. Called them on one of their numbers and got thru to a full answer machine, so didn't even get a chance to leave a message. Have e-mailed them today asking for refund(thanks didn't notice that e-mail address at bottom of their website). I'm going to call them again today on the international number you supplied. Not sure about time difference? Anyone any ideas? When I called last night it said on their site "advisors are waiting to take your call and they answer in 90 secs". My a#se. I'll keep trying though, beginning to feel like I don't mind spending £30 on phone bill to get my £25 back off them.

Thanks for info/help.

Cheers,

Kerjak.

kerjak March 8th, 2006 10:48 AM

Kerching, Kerching

Called them today and I'm getting a refund in 10 days apparently. Spoke to "Jennifer", I sound more American, than she did. She told me I would get refund minus £5.60 "cancellation charge". I lied and told her i had a copy of agreement befor joining and that it never mentioned anything about cancellation charges. She kind of ignored this fact 3 or 4 times then I said fine I would be contacting my CC company. Did the trick, she said full refund in 10 days or so.

If anyone has to call the States from UK checkout www.ringsid.com they will give you special dialling "prefixes" for international calls. The charges appear on your normal phone bill. For phoning Jennifer and her pals it will only cost 3p per minute total at anytime of the day.

Thanks again people for all help/advice on this forum, appreciate it. Pity my first visit to forum was not of a "happier" nature because of these thieving twats. I can get on with using FREE limewire now.

Cheers,

kerjak.

Venom_3_12 March 8th, 2006 02:33 PM

Another one saved.....sort of...

I'm glad to hear that you got things squared away kerjak. One can't put a price tag on their own pride(<--pronounced revenge ;)).
Hopefully myself and others here have been of good use, and feel free to mention this topic to anyone you know. The more widespread it becomes, the more these company's will collapse. Man I love the wonderful world of FREE** file sharing <raises roof>
**Venom's Dictionary defines it as such:
free
adj.
Not paying money for free programs just so that I have the reassurance that if said program doesn't work I can have a cheetoh's eating, couch sitting, game playing, music listening, customer service rep tell me I'm dumb! (Those are my jobs)

Peace out ya'll

Does anyone have a contact # for clickbank? I sent an email to them about a refund but would like to have a phone # as well. Also I reviewed to terms and conditions for lightspeedmovies.com...i didnt see anything about a 100% guarantee or anything so does that mean there is no way i can still get a refund even though its a scam?

wondering why March 11th, 2006 10:50 PM

Clickbank are really good they gave me my refund through the email I sent to them....Just explain the circumstances to them...
Not sure of the phone number though....;)

wizardaj83 March 15th, 2006 10:16 AM

Thank you all for your help. Clickbank has agreed to give me back a full refund of the 19.95 membership fee from lightspeedmovies.com....this forum really helped me and i hope it will help others as well

got a refund

Thank you everyone for your advice on getting a refund. The other thing I made sure to do was get a confirmation number and have them remove my e-mail from their servers. So glad you all were here!

Philsiu02 June 9th, 2006 04:24 PM

Hi,

My brother had just fallen for this scam and I thought there was no way these people should get away with it. As soon as I found out (which was luckily before any of their software had been downloaded and within about an hour of signing up) I called the company (www.mp3musichq.com) and told them I want to cancel. They asked why so I told them that they were misleading, implying that you could legally download music from their site which is just not the case. I also stated early on that I knew about the required "7 day cooling off" period and they were obliged to cancel the subscription.

Like other people they said that there would be a cancellation charge and staright away I questioned why. There is no way they should charge for processing fees. I mentioned that this was to be taked up with the credit card company and I expressed once again that I know exacty how peer-to-peer works and that I know that if my brother was to download a song by any well known artist he would be performing an illegal act (believe it or not they tried to persuade me that this was legal!).

Anyway, the whole phonecall lasted between 5 and 10 minutes (which couldn't cost too much on the phone bill) and I was told that a full refund will be given with no cancellation charge. I got a reference number and the credit card company has already been told that the charge will be disputed if it is not returned within the promised 8 - 10 business days.

I actually have several qualifications in law and computing and made sure they knew that I knew what I was talking about. I phoned on my borthers behalf so they couldn't fob him off with technical or legal jargon and it seemed to do the job.

My advice is to be quick and to the point. Be assertive but not to aggressive. Make sure that you make it clear that you know your rights and always go into the conversation with the intent of getting a full refund. If you have a friend who knows alot about computers then it may be worth getting them to call on your behalf too.

Lord of the Rings June 9th, 2006 05:18 PM

Congratulations, well done & thanks for the advice. Glad you can share your advice to others in a similar situation. ;)

I think your post should be "highlighted"!!!!

garbagefan2 June 9th, 2006 05:49 PM

Hmm good suggestion! ;) :)
(I'll look into it.)

oweaver June 12th, 2006 10:31 PM

SCAM-www.themusicsmembersarea.com

A charge for $44 appeared on my CC June 8 billed by dwnldsupport.com/ for themusicsmembersarea.com. It was for download privileges for a year which I didn't order. I tried to access billing info at themusicsmembersarea.com but it requested a password I didn't have. They referred me to the eMail they sent when I signed up but I never received an eMail. My CC company will credit my account so I'm OK but the point of this is how they got all my info. It's kind of interesting. On the date my CC was charged I was on the Limewire site and decided to upgrade to PRO. I filled in all the info and then changed my mind. I didn't submit the info, just closed the page. This info was somehow hijacked. This is the only thing I can figure out. Googling themusicsmembersarea reveals other posts about their being scammers. Some believe they are also using a copy of a Limewire program for their downloads.

Hope this helps somebody.

Has anyone else had dealings with the above download engine I am having real problems contacting them because of a problem?

feigsc August 18th, 2006 07:40 AM

Bad news

I got a guy who just flat out refused to give a full refund - only partial (less $9.95), even when I said I'd take it up with my CC company, and then finally said I'd report it to the Internet Crime Complaint Centre. Got put through to a super eventually, left a voice mail message, doubt that will do any good. Have to go to CC company I suppose.

chitsaya August 29th, 2006 11:42 AM

I just have been scammed by a moviedownload site. I reported to the support team (the only contact) right away and I got a reply email saying that they do offer an 8 week refund period and a link to the clickbank customer report page. I already reported to the clickbank two days ago but no response yet. How can I email or call the clickbank directly?
thanks a lot,

coodgee August 30th, 2006 07:20 AM

I have a similar story. but you can get your money back. ring them up and demand it. they will tell you they have to charge the $9 processing fee but dispute this. they agreed to pay a full refund with very little hassle. YOU CAN GET YOUR MONEY BACK.

I too have been scammed by Mp3music HQ, I signed up on 11th August and was charged £38.73 approx £20.00 more than I anticipated paying, the automatically charged me for the pro version and additional spyware. Any suggestions as to what my course of action should be? Have sice accessed Frostwire free of charge.

while they talk about "Lifetime Full & Unlimited Access for only (crossed out)37.95) (crossed out)29.95) - Now Only $23.46!!! (best offer!)", once you've gotten your login, and access their FAQ, you find out that their service is (see below:

Here's the contents of the email I sent to support@mp3helpdesk.com

This is my order for a "Lifetime Membership".
<CLIPPED>

I am very displeased to see that there was an ADDITIONAL charge placed on my credit card that I was not informed of ahead of time.

I am even more displeased because thus far I have had no luck getting FrostWire OR LimeWire to connect to their networks. I am on the verge of calling my credit card company and asking them to void the charge because I am not being provided with the services I paid for.

Here's their first reply.

Hello,

Thanks for Joining,

Sorry to hear you are having a difficult time downloading.

What Operating System are you using ( Windows Me, Xp,2000, 98, 95, Mac ) ?
If you are a Mac user, Plese download from this link.

First make sure your pop up blocker is turned off. You will need to see the pop ups to install the program.

Internet Explorer is the best Internet Browser to use when installing programs. If you use the browser that your ISP(Internet Server Provider) automatically assigns your computer you may have some problems installing. Like AOL, NetZERO etc. Minimize the existing browser and click on the blue e on your desktop. Now try installing the program. If you do not have Internet Explorer please click on this link to install it free.

If you were unable to download Limewire or frostwire due to firewall restrictions, I suggest that you right click on your firewall icon, and choose disable. That will allow the program to download. After it is downloaded you need to enable it again. Here is limewire suggestions on firewalls. http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

If you have the limewireor frostwire program installed on your computer and the icon on your desktop and the Search Box is not activated and or you are not able to search for files. Please look at the bottom of the Limewire program on the left side, there will be 4 or 5 connection bars. If the connection bars are Green then you are connected to the internet and should be able to search for files. Type in the search box the name of the file (song, video, movie.) Then hit search. You should see the results in the middle of the screen.

If your Connection bars are Red then you are not connected to the Internet. Make sure your computer is connected to the Internet. If it is then please do the following.
In the upper left hand corner there is a file tab, click on it and choose connect. If it shows only disconnect option, choose that, then choose connect again. If that fails,
Go to Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove Program. Scroll down till you see Limewire if it's there. Click the Remove tab to remove this from your system.
Now shut down your computer and restart it.

Once rebooted, try installing Java again.
Visit this link: Install Java for your operating system.
http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

If the java program does not run, Check the following :
Running with Internet Explorer on Windows Systems
The Java must first be enabled as follows:

1)Select Tools / Internet Options / Advanced from the browser’s menu bar

2)Make sure java is ticked.

3)Restart Explorer.

Please give me details so I can assist you.
If you can supply us with screen shots so we can see what your screen looks like that would be great.

You may need to run the Java offline installer in order to get it to run. This link will help you with that.

Hm. Hmmm. Lookie here, at all the common-sense troubleshooting methods they've gone through the trouble to collect and email to me. Funny how they aren't addressing the problem I reported! Rrrr.

I'll be back again, when next they reply to my latest attack, I mean, message.

Quick update, after sending a couple of emails (which were not replied to) I finally took the bull by the horns and rang an 0845 number listed on help site, spoke to a guy called Ryan Smith (who was very helpful) and should be getting a refund via my credit card within 8-10 days. Fingers crossed. Will post again when confirmed. I had also contacted my credit card company desputing the charge, but had not completed the relevant paperwork. Told them of this so perhaps that helped.
