Simple question...

Rather than spend hours digging through this forum...can someone answer whether this Limewire software can be installed and run without Trojans and spyware? I just purchased the pro version based on their rather deceiving banner that says "No spyware, No Trojans. etc" Within seconds after install, my security systems automatically remove all traces of Grokkster and Kazaa, rendering the software useless..It actually took installing it 6 times and watching it disappear before my very eyes until, duh, I figured it out. Is there any version of this software available that installs without that crap? At this point I'd rather just flush the twenty bucks along with Limewire right down the toilet rather than have THAT trojan / spyware junk on my PC. If you people are running Limewire on your PCs with all that junk, you deserved to be hacked big time and trust me, you will be. So ..... Are there any "clean" versions available? Or Not?

wondering why July 5th, 2006 01:39 PM

Limewire does not have any spyware contained within the program...
Did you purchase it from the official limewire site??
Also what security do you use???

I believe it was the "official" site (limewire.com) very green website..Security wise, I use Pest Patrol, Ewido, and Bit Defender AV...I also have Windows Defender and use only the Windows SP-2 firewall. Don't get me wrong..Limewire is a fantastic program, as I had the opportunity to use it a few times for the brief period it was installed..I would use it, come back a few hours later and it was gone..literally..once it tried to phone home, my security would kill it and remove it automatically..That's why I kept re-installing it and wondering what the heck...a little on-line research indicates that Limewire does in fact still load trojan and spy programs..My logs indicate Limewire, Grokster and KaZaa to be specific...I tried to get rid of the latter 2 and just kept Limewire, but it would not open because of missing files..Again, I really love the program and would love to keep it..but I would much prefer a copy without Grokster and KaZaa...So...am I missing something here, or could I have possibly downloaded a replica program? I'm not here to dis Limewire, I just want to figure out whether it's going to work for me or not... Thanks!!

Yo m8,
in short there is no adware or trojans in genuine limewire, it does not cost 20 bucks its 18.88 dollers if my memory correct. Basic is free give that a try. A lot of scam sites look very similar to the correct one.

I cant recall any problems wiv ur adware protection someone may correct me here but they are both on my favorable list. Your av iv had nothing to do with but have heard good things about it so would be surprised if that was the problem.
Download the basic from this link and report back.

Thanks everyone for yor help...I think I have solved my problem...I went with Frostwire (Free) It looks and runs exactly like Limewire Pro and works great so far. My AV is set up to scan all incoming dowload files and all outgoing upload files, so others will be protected as well. I ran a complete virus / trojan scan after the install and turned up absolutely clean..I have 8 Meg broadband so download speeds are definately not an issue..I just feel a little better running clean...I'm assuming that this version came from the parent Limewire, which I maintain is an excellent program..just didn't like (nor did my security) like the extra stuff that came with it...All is well...and thanks again for everyone's help:)
