These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum. Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules. Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted. Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender. Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration. The Rules 1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required. 8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning. 9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning. 10. Posts should have descriptive subjects. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents. 11. | Limewire gurus, please put some kind of option to limit the size to either above or below certain file sizes to avoid getting millions of 147.5 kb files for, say, ghost recon, or 187.7 kb for some other monster program which is far bigger than the file size shown, obviously they're a virus, and thank god for bitzi, but c'mon, let's get rid of this ****... I think if you limit the search to files greater than 3 megs (when you know you're looking for a file thats greater then 3 megs), you would get fewer results from these idiots seeding these time wasting files. same goes for 100+Mb files, why would I want to check bitzi for a file that shows 87kb, or why would I want to look through hundreds of files just to find one or two..., ok, I can use the size order and put the biggest on top, but the other files seem to clog up the rest of the search and I get left with one, two or no file I want out of many.... is it feasible??? I hope.... thx |

| Although there would be a possibility of putting an option in the search of a minimum result size... the best thing to do (for now) would click the SIZE column head twice, thus putting all the small files to the bottom of the search results and the largest at the top (going by your opinion would mean "valid" hits being at the top) ^_^ Stay safe in your searches, always use an anti-virus program to scan programs and EXE files before running them on your computer to aviod naughty programs! | True but I have yet to see it and Ive been a long time P2P user. Filters can only filterout keywords. I have yet to see any app filterout by size. There is away to get rid of junk files in your LW settings though. I use this and tweak my settings and it pretty much rids myself of unwanted search results. |

| limewireuserabuser is totally correct... filtering file size is easy math scripting, just "if, "then" and "else" - seeing as all incoming hits are put through your custom filter anyway it should be easy. If it's something you feel will greatly aid limewire users you can submit it to the limewire production team - but I can't remember the email for it or the link to it, see the website http://www.limewire.com clicky Seith |

| Well they can put it as a search option Search results (< X) and (> Y) That shouldn't be a problem, and it would help aviod small files when searching for files over 100MB This said, you can still sort the search results accending or decending... so I don't see a problem... nor the use for this request =) Seith |
| ||||
| I made a request for it 2 years ago. Yes I totally agree with your point!!! It has been requested many, many times since. But it's up to the LW team & their reasoning. |
| |||
| Not being vigilant and just looking at file size is being lazy :P Plus... would you REALLY use it? I try to aviod using anything that's going to trim my search hits, just download everything then decide what you don't need xD |

| Ok, thank you for the interest in this... Lord of the rings, I read your past topic on this, I was sure I wasn't going to invent gun powder all over again, so that proves me I am not alone in this quest. Let's then put some kind of virus check on limewire where it will not let you share a file if it contains a virus, or if the file size does not match the known file size for a given program, something like a general scanner, that would take care of the unsuspecting sharers out there. As for the users ho deliberately share these files, well..... a nice surprise visit at their home with a baseball bat would be nice, but let's be realistic.... that would hurt them badly. I say Limewire should take into account these ideas, and maybe give them a try, release a beta with it and see what happens... today I looked for a boot manager which weighs 7 megs, I couldn't even begin to explain how many times I had to mark as junk files of less size, until after 50 "get more results" I found ONE hwich was 7,107... beautiful, and thank you limewire, but that only shows me that these smaller files tend to butt in in front of the legit files, and just cram up the results leaving no room for the good ones. If junk or virus files get bigger, then it means your usual user out there wont want to have a 100mb file just sitting around being useless, and thus would most likely delete it, it would also be harder to spread because being so large, and maybe already tagged by bitzi, no one would get it, or they would make sure it was not a virus. Small files are usually downloaded without checking because they're quick to download and generally the person doesnt have too much of a clueas to what they're doing... I have an idea, Bitzi was somehow founded and it's a great help.... but why not create a similar project where the file sizes of legit software are recorded much in the same way that these files get bitprints so as to have a record of an original file size, then, whenever a file gets recorded as a virus, or incomplete one could check in the same way we do bitzi. maybe even with a "file size discrepancy" alert to the user... Well, I'm not the brightest bulb in the knife drawer , but I actually think that with the right people on it, this thing could work. if anything it would certainly make it harder for these crackhead losers to keep seeding junk to people..... thank you for waisting 3 minutes of your lives reading this..... |

| I think it sounds like a great idea. Why not suggest it at the LW forums as a potential bounty? The LW beta forums can be found here (but it's a different forum & need to do a separate registration): http://www.limewire.org/forum/index.php BTW if people seriously want specific improvements in LW, you can sponsor them if you're willing. ie: Put the money forward for creating such an improvement & either the LW team or other donators of code will try to create such a code patch to do what this request is. LW put bounties rewards on things they'd like done. But this can also be done independently. If you want to find out more, send me a private message by clicking on my username & send message. |

| Sorry Seith I disagree. 1) the small, junk files ARE generated trojans/viruses/worms. 2) They usually appear at the top of your search results 3) There's no way to filterout a generated trojan/virus/worm by size. The keyword is 'generated' in the old days, Napster/OpenNap users word change their titles slightly to avoid the filters etc. They do this on Gnutella so how would filtering by size work on something that can be renamed or is a dummy file generated by a dummy machine? It wouldnt work and if users simply tweaked their settings, they wouldnt see so much junk in their search. Interesting but have yet to see it as a feature Its the Users who control Gnutella not Limewire. You can not filterout something that is automatically generated if that were true then we'd have no need for automatic spam emails in our inbox. Even spam fiters find ways go get around that. You can request it until you're blue in the face. I cant see it working nor can I see any programmer taking their time to invent it. (my 2 cents) Last edited by Sphinx : August 24th, 2006 at 08:03 PM. |

| You can't disagree about what I said, becuase I didn't give an opinion... I said a truth When you first search you see it organised as you set before (name, result#) ![]() Clicking the Size column headder once sorts it ascending [/\] ![]() Clicking it again sorts it descending [\/] ![]() If you can't see the SIZE column, right click one of the column headings, and select "Size" from the popup menu. =) Thus making all virus/trojan suspected files (the small ones) at the bottom and out of sight.
