Moderators

There are senior members on the forums who serve as Moderators. These volunteers keep the board organized and moving.
Moderators are authorized to: (in order of increasing severity)
Move posts to the correct forums. Many times, members post in the wrong forum. These off-topic posts may impede the normal operation of the forum.
Edit posts. Moderators will edit posts that are offensive or break any of the House Rules.
Delete posts. Posts that cannot be edited to comply with the House Rules will be deleted.
Restrict members. This is one of the last punishments before a member is banned. Restrictions may include placing all new posts in a moderation queue or temporarily banning the offender.
Ban members. The most severe punishment. Three or more moderators or administrators must agree to the ban for this action to occur. Banning is reserved for very severe offenses and members who, after many warnings, fail to comply with the House Rules. Banning is permanent. Bans cannot be removed by the moderators and probably won't be removed by the administration.

The Rules

1. Warez, copyright violation, or any other illegal activity may NOT be linked or expressed in any form. Topics discussing techniques for violating these laws and messages containing locations of web sites or other servers hosting illegal content will be silently removed. Multiple offenses will result in consequences.

2. Spamming and excessive advertising will not be tolerated.

3. There will be no excessive use of profanity in any forum.

4. There will be no racial, ethnic, or gender based insults, or any other personal attacks.

5. Pictures may be attached to posts and signatures if they are not sexually explicit or offensive.

6. Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other threads and see where your post will go. If your post is placed in the wrong forum it will be moved by a moderator. There are specific Gnutella Client sections for LimeWire, Phex, FrostWire, BearShare, Gnucleus, Morpheus, and many more. Please choose the correct section for your problem.

7. If you see a post in the wrong forum or in violation of the House Rules, please contact a moderator via Private Message or the "Report this post to a moderator" link at the bottom of every post. Please do not respond directly to the member - a moderator will do what is required.

8. Any impersonation of a forum member in any mode of communication is strictly prohibited and will result in banning.

9. Multiple copies of the same post will not be tolerated. Post your question, comment, or complaint only once. There is no need to express yourself more than once. Duplicate posts will be deleted with little or no warning.

10. Posts should have descriptive subjects. Vague titles such as "Help!", "Why?", and the like may not get enough attention to the contents.

11. Do not divulge anyone's personal information in the forum, not even your own. This includes e-mail addresses, IP addresses, age, house address, and any other distinguishing information. Don´t use eMail addresses in your nick.

12. Signatures may be used as long as they are not offensive or sexually explicit.

13. Failure to show that you have read the forum rules may result in forum rules breach infraction points or warnings awarded against you which may later total up to an automatic temporary or permanent ban. Supplying system details is a prerequisite in most cases, particularly with connection or installation issues.

Violation of any of these rules will bring consequences, determined on a case-by-case basis.

Thank You! Thanks for taking the time to read these forum guidelines. We hope your visit is helpful and mutually beneficial to the entire community.

Default A warning to those who have homeowners insurance from Farmers, State Farm or Allstate

Read your policies carefully!

Here's my story:

Around the beginning of June a severe thunderstorm blew through central Texas..the type with unbelievable winds associated with it...branches and limbs were all over the whole neighborhood...

about 2 weeks after that I had just won a bid on Ebay for a rather unique piece of wood which I plan to use for the top on a Les Paul style electric guitar...I was showing my wife the online pictures and she mentioned that I hadn't ever really shown her the Koa wood I had gotten around the new year for an acoustic...so, I unpacked it and showed it off...upon repackaging I noticed mold growing on the box and was rather concerned....further investigation led to the knowledge that water had gotten in and had soaked one corner of this room I use for computer work and storage of stuff...mold was growing under a cherry cabinet I have on the floor (which is now ruined) for use as a filing cabinet, and boxes of personal papers were also soaked and contents damaged...the adjacent room is my garage where I have some rather tasty woods stored and some of those were also damaged...after moving stuff around the water quickly evaporated and that was that..

I made a claim with my insurance company, Farmers, and a rather jerkwad adjuster came out and told me my claim would be denied as this type of damage was excluded...why you ask?...because there was no physical hole in my roof...the fact that horizontal rain had blown under some shingles or flashing makes no difference..there has to be physical damage to the structure for wind blown rain to be covered...WTF????...that has got to be the most criminal exclusion I have ever heard...on top of the fact said adjuster actually tried to get me to say this was 'fair'...FAIR???...fair is the fact that I didn't bust a cap in his sorry head for his smug a§§ attitude...what a pr!ck...he really blew it when he said 'what concerns me is that there is no mold or anything growing on your ceiling or walls'...concerns you?...more like you know that that proves this water penetration was a one time thing caused by a severe storm, not a leaky roof you fracking pig!...he even had the audacity to imply that maybe the water had gotten in through the limestone walls of my house ...

I've called agents for the others of the big 3 in Texas (State Farm and Allstate) and they also have this criminal exclusion...I mean really, this makes me think of the movie Tommy Boy where Tommy goes off on his theory of the Warranty Fairy...well I'm thinking of the Insurance Fairy now...what a farce...totally worthless insurance coverage...of no use except to make you think you are safe (until you actually find out you are just throwing money away for coverage that isn't there when you need it for a justifiable reason)

Here's the real kicker...a while back a hurricane (the one that blasted the Texas coast) was projected to have effects up here in Austin...so I called my agent and asked him what was up...I walked away from that conversation thinking I was covered...either my agent is clueless or he's a lying monkey..either way my relationship with Farmers is over...for homeowners, auto, and life insurance...they will not get a single dime from me ever again...apparently Nationwide Insurance does cover a loss just like this, so guess where my $ are going???

to Farmers (and the other 2), my agent, and that worthless adjuster that was sent out:

I've got a barbed broomstick lubed with chunky peanut butter and the bristles soaked in gasoline ready to shove right up your hairless a§§es...got a light LOTR??? It would truly be a grand sight to see those pr!cks running around with a flaming broomstick stuck up their a§§es and them trying to decide whether to rip it out or burn alive...

Hell, they actually deserve the Vietnamese torture treatment...you know, being tied to a big wooden X, and a bucket tied to their scrotum...then a rock is added every day...after about 2 weeks after gangrene has fully set in, their whole intestinal tracks will fall out and they will die in excruciating agony...yeah...that's about what they deserve...

The only thing good about this whole scenario was having spent around $200 on a piece of gnarly Myrtle wood which lead to me finding this all out before the $500 of Koa was ruined...

And what's really lucky is that I didn't have my ~$20,000 of guitars in that area..if they had been damaged and not covered, I would already be on national news for what I would have done to those insurance pr!cks...may they all rot in hell, along with the Texas Insurance Commission for allowing this type of practice...they are just as bad as lawyers...worthless vampires sucking the life out of real people...

yep they do...a§§holes they are!...doesn't matter if you've never defaulted on a ****...doesn't matter that you paid all the late fees (and thereby increased the profit margin for the company)...its just a way for them to shove it up your a§§ and hurt you more...

and here they want to raise their rates even more...I guess their CEO's need another yacht or two finished out in pomelle sapele...

Default F*** Allstate

You know it's not just in Texas, they're everywhere, so I also have a short story. I'm also from Texas living in Az. which is the closest thing to HELL that I can imagine. Went to Allstate for a quote on my new Dodge Charger. First thing out of this Jackasses mouth was, we need you're SS#. Would'nt you think they might want to know what you're driving record looked like?? Nope Just asked me if I had had any tickets or accidents. Came back with a quote of 376.00 a month for 6 months. I and walked out. Drove about 5 miles and got a policy for 132.00 for 6 months. So I called that FAT F*** and told him he could stick his quote up his A**.

Default US Insurance Companies

Remoc

Not being a USA citizen but interested in your story, I'd like to ask you to cut down on the US abbreviations, for example, you mentioned SS#, which I take to mean social security number. However, in the UK the nearest equivalent is our NI number (National Insurance) and we are not obliged to carry or produce them for identification.

Also, what is AZ? Is it short for Arizona? But that couldn’t be because Arizona is a different US state. So you see, US abbreviations can get somewhat confusing to forum members who do not live in the US.

Peerless

Now, Texans are world-renowned for their love of guns, so much so that I believe that in some places in Texas you can get a free gun with your take-away (take-out?).

Anyway, this Insurance Adjuster comes to your home, royally shafts you then says, “Smile, it’s fair”. I am surprised that he left your home with all his bodily parts intact, you must have shown some real self-restraint.

You know, your story reminds me of a Billy Connolly film (Scottish comedian, he recently toured the States on a three-wheeled motor bike) whereby, like you, he put in an insurance claim for the damage done to his fishing boat during a storm. He was also told his claim would not be paid because it was an “Act of God”. So he sued God.

The upshot was that Insurance companies could never again use an “Act of God” to deny a claim. Although it was only a comedy film it contained a grain of truth, i.e. insurance companies will use any excuse not to pay a claim .

Finally, you should report this "slippery" practice to the Texas Insurance Commission, if they are not a corrupt organisation then they might use your complaint to help build a case against your (former) insurance company.

UK Bob

PS. The film is called "The Man Who Sued God", it was made in 2001 and is more than likely available on DVD.

376 for six months is good..they wanted six hundred down from me..and it was like 4000 for a year for two cars...I laughed at the guy on the phone..and said...my down payment is what i pay for six months for one car..i dont think so...

ps..our driving records are impeccable..and the only negative things on my credit? two old chargeoffs from 6.5 years ago..everything from the last 5 years is paid or paid on time...

I went through AAA...so far they've been wonderful

oh trust me....I've filed a complaint...if they (Farmers) pulled the old automatic denial as is so often in movies, then they fùcked up...I've been a customer of theirs for 20 years, and I'll be damñed if I'm going to play that game...so of course I went straight above their worthless corporate heads...

Sorry UKBob, I often forget that I am amongst a very diverse group here which makes it very interesting and also a lot of fun. Yes Az. does stand for Arizona, and also you guessed SS# correct. The reason why they ask for your SS# is to check your credit. Thats what I was trying to convey. They are not as concerened with your driving record as they should be. They are more concerened with your creditworthyness. If you have bad credit, you will pay a lot higher rate than someone with good credit. Hope I cleared that up.

Cheers for your info on how Social Security numbers are used in the US, I had no idea that they could be used for checks on your credit worthiness.

You may not know this but in the UK our National Insurance numbers are only used by the government to check that we have enough contributions to cover things like pensions, medical treatment (doctors & hospitals), etc. And our employers to deduct these NI payments for and on behalf of the government.

Anyway, seems like some of your Insurance companies are no better than the scam sites we warn newbies to stay away from.

Peace

UK Bob
