Default Registering with a serial number - ??

Hey there...if you have software that you have downloaded, and it comes with a serial number so that it will work, is there any danger to using it? A serial # came with the download and is obviously necessary for the software to use. I was close to plugging it in so that the software would work, but noticed that I had to be online to do so..is this going to connect me back in some traceable way to the manufacturer? I have not downloaded much, so I apologize if this is a dumb question. Thanks in advance.

I take it that you are not actually referring to a serial # for your copy of LimeWire, right ?

I am assuming that you are talking about programs downloaded from the file-sharing community...
The discussion of so-called 'cracks' or 'keygens' and the like is not allowed within these forums.

But, a tip.... As for me, I NEVER am connected when installing new progs.
(Except Norton, of course, which normally shafts you royally on an install without connect !)

Last... Important... If you do D/L some app and you are directed to an internet address in order to download a keygen or password or serial #, DELETE the garbage you downloaded and don't even dream of doing anything in the redirect site !!!
Unless, of course, you get off on problem-solving...

the only problem with using a supplied serial, assuming its a valid one, is that a heck of a lot of other people have already used it....get The_Point?
