Not really a whinge, but would appreciate an explanation.

Been using Limewire for several years now, enjoyed the benefits so purchased Limewire PRO some time ago, paid my $24.95 and was happy.

Started up Limewire tonight, received a "new update available" message.

Updated to version 4.14.10 and now back to Limewire basic !

I appreciate Limewire a lot, so will pay another $24.95 to upgrade again, but it would have been nice to have been informed at the time of upgrading.

However, this then opens another question - does Limewire PRO actually work any better/faster than basic ?

Any responses appreciated.

it gets more connections so it gets more results and faster downloads but you payed for LW pro if your 6 months haven't expired when you go to DL pro in the top right corner it says already payed for pro click that put in your email address you used when you purchased then you should be back in business.

Main point is that it would have been good to have a warning box when upgrading telling me this.

Don't think I'll be the only one caught out by this, best get the credit card out again

you know I Had pro 4 14 10 and i was not getting much more than the basic so I just decided to keep basic its really about the same.

There is an option in LW settings to allow to be informed of updates. Also, if you bookmark your Personal Pro Download page & you know you are getting near then end of your 6 months, they will offer a small discount for continueing. At least I presume they are still doing this. And recently they offered the option of 12 months for just an extra US $10.

Pro gives connections to more Ultrapeers. Allows downloads from more peers per file. And has a better search function for the rarer files (can reach further into the network.) But that won't be noticed when searching for common files. Of course there's also not that annoying upgrade window that Basic users get when opening LW.

what exactly is rarer files I know its a dumb question but I'm eager to learn?

I have trouble remembering last week, let alone 6 months ago !

To be honest I'm happy to pay what is in reality a small amount for the amount of stuff I've downloaded over the years.

Issue is more about being warned about it, just a thought in case any developers stick their heads in here.

I have also lost my LW PRO feature with new upgrade today. I purchased PRO last year with the understanding it being lifetime. I have entered my email address in LW PRO support, but does not recognize my email address...which is the one I used to purchase PRO. I then did a system restore, hoping to get my old LW version back and it's turbo capabilities, but still returns to basic. So, I reversed my system restore and am now getting 4.12 version, basic. Yikes! I do not want the FREE version, as I also paid lifetime Limewire membership.
I cannot contact Limewire as they do not recognized my email.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

There is no lifetime membership, only scam sites offer such nonsense to extract more money out of the internet novice.

After all, what is this "lifetime membership" you think you are paying for?

Sorry, but you will find that you have been scammed by an internet company set up to part novices from their money, and if you check you will find that you do not have Pro but LW Basic, which is free.

You should contact your CC company's anti-fraud section, explained to them you have been conned and they will give you your money back, if it has not been too long.

Note, it was not the LW Org that scammed you it was the (no-name) web-site that offered unlimited films, games, MP3s and anything else you could wish for all for a one off payment and a "lifetime membership" to a non-existent club.

hi colleen there is no lifetime with pro only 6 months and now 12 for an extra $10 you did not get your LW from the official LW site and theres no telling what was added to the copy of LW you got Id be carefull and make sure you get it from Lime Wire » Official Website & Free Download, BitTorrent « theres a lot of scam sites out there.

Thanks michwayne, thought PRO was forever when I added it last year. I did have a turbo-charged indication, but not now. As for Limewire itself, seems I was scammed into purchasing life membership, if it truly is free s/w. But honestly, I would know better than to download from some bizarre site...anyways, is Limewire free? the new 4.14 version? thanks.

4.14.10 basic limewire is free you got to pay for pro but at lest you know there not adding any spyware or anything when I first got LW basic I payed for it then My brother told me it was free and I actually found the official site I was duped I wish I found this forum before I downloaded it I wish all the people including me would get a class action lawsuit against them put them out of business those sorry peaces of crap.

who do you think you are? Responding to LW queries and referring to those complaintants as novices. You're a jerk. I was long on the internet before google and yahoo, posting on alt boards. Your comments to watch our CC, etc. are crap....idiotic common sense. Get a life.

Known Scam Sites (click on link) ... if it is possible for you to find out who it was ... though it was a long time ago, let us know. Some take your money then give you the link to the LW Basic download page. Some will give you a version of pro or basic or a version they have sometimes added something to. There are so many scammers out there.

BTW I can assure you UKBob did not intend to upset/insult you. He was speaking generally. Since it's often the people who are new to p2p programs who get taken/tricked/scammed. Particularly when most of the scam sites advertise (sponsor search engines such as google); So who is "really" holding responsibility over the Scam sites success?

I approached this forum for real answers and got labelled a novice right off the bat and didn't accept someone who spoke generally. Generally, this is not good approach, especially when I am intelligent and do not speak MSN or bullshit. Please read my and other histories that have been posted these past days, describing the particulars of LimeWire problems. If I was scammed for LW BASIC, good for them, but I definitely GOT scammed by PRO LimeWire. I got double-whammied.

BTW, I DO NOT purchase over the internet.
