LimeWire as a real MP3 player like iTunes

I've been surfing these forums and looking at the LimeWire UI. I'm trying to figure out whether LimeWire can actually be used as a normal MP3 player for my library of songs. I have about 3,000 legitimate songs that I want to import to LimeWire. Is it possible to do anything like this without copying/moving the songs to the Shared folder? Basically, does LimeWire offer an iTunes like library where I can just search for certain songs and create a playlist to listen to? Please Help.

You can drag songs from other folders on your computer, into the LW player's playlist. But you'd need to make sure you save the playlist, or whatever you've dragged in will vanish when you restart LW.

The LW player's a bit horrible. It's a very basic player with few features. I'd recommend forgetting about it & making something else your default player;)

Is the media player for LimewirePRO any good? Does it have an iTunes like library so that the playlist creation can be done within the single application without opening any folders?

Regarding the lack of a media player built in the default LimeWire version, don't the biz development people realize that they have about 70 million downloads? That's a huge 'market share' (if you will). Why end the typical user-experience at just downloading? Right now, it appears that the average user downloads a set of desired songs, shuts down LimeWire and fires up iTunes to listen to the songs and engage in all the other iTunes interactions that are commercially benefiting Apple. Imagine what leverage LimeWire could have by just offering a more decent player (e.g. library support) and keeping users.

Same player in basic & Pro. If the files that you want to add to a playlist aren't in LW's library (eg in shared or saved files) then you'll have to open the folders containing the files that you want to add & the drag & drop into the LW player's playlist.

I don't know what the developers think. Helpers on this forum don't work for LW - we're volunteers. I don't even know if the developers look at this forum any more... they certainly don't post here any more:wasntme:

If you want to track the progress of the player, you can check out the JIRA: https://www.limewire.org/jira/secure/QuickSearch.jspa (type 'player' into the quick search bar) and Changelog: Changelog - LimeWire (changes to player began in version 4.15.0)

Or post over here at this other forum: LimeWire Forums
Maybe a developer will answer your post over there.

Plug your player into your computer, go to My Computer & you'll see the player showing up as another drive.

You need to know where your LW saved folder is. In LW tools > options > saving will show you the location. If you go to LW's library, click on Saved Files, highlight a file & click Explore...your saved folder will open. This is where you should add to your player from.

Now try dragging songs from your saved folder into your player (whatever drive it shows up as in My Computer). Or check the player's manual for more instructions about how to add files to the player:)

Or try WW's advice here.
