If done right, Java has no problem to display such a list, our experience show only some temporary slowdowns when initially sorting by the number of hits of a blocked IP.

I'd rather save the 10+ megs anyway.

Displaying data you have in memory anyway doesn't mean it will use much additional memory. Compared to the memory used by around 400000 address ranges, the widget itself and the most of the times not even displayed 20-30 address strings in the users viewport is negligible, it might not even make up 1%.

It's probably just low on the list of priorities. I wouldn't be surprised because virtually
nobody would want it and since I gather it's a new type of structure (in java), somebody
would actually have to write new code to get a reasonably efficient view on contents.

Maybe an indirect approach will be needed, like allow the user a view and edit on the external
hostiles list, then load it up again. Of course, other things may need a refit to accommodate
updates after everything has been in place for a while. More checks and hoops. Resources may
be running on fumes at that moment so you've got to be ready for anything.

Easier to just pot the code into it's box while it still works so fast, eh? ; ]

Hey Alan, Just to let you know you have posted in the Bearshare Forum.

As far as the porn goes, P2P means that you are sharing files from other hosts computers, so there is really no way to police what someone is sharing. There is no servers so you just have to be careful and always use Bitzi. Here are a few other tips.

How to use Bitzi

Fake files showing up in search results

How to find music(tips for movies, too)

So how much of the list does Classic LW use? Or none at all?
LW Classic uses a very early version of Java.

In that case the reference to the Mac OS 8 & 9 preference folder location should probably be removed & a note placed explaining this doesn't apply to their versions. You'd be surprised how many pre-OSX users there still are out there. Of course, add to that those who are still using Mac 10.1->3, & are thus also not able to use the new feature, as the last version 10.3 users can use is LW 4.12.16, & for OSX 10.1 is LW 4.8.1. Altogether that's a lot of mac users in the gnutella community. Only those who use OSX 10.4 or higher can use the hostiles list. Should probably be noted on your first or second post in this thread.

Java 1.5 was only introduced in OSX 10.4. And Mac has not released a Java 1.6 at this stage. Perhaps with the new OSX 10.5 being or soonish released, will mac release a Java 1.6.

I'll just delete the reference to older Macs in that post. Those people already know they're stuck
with orphaned versions of Java and LimeWire so specifying LW 4.13 and up, as it does already,
should be enough to avoid any future confusion.
