The instructions from the site are: here and below.

1. Look for your password on the bottom of your router or in the paperwork that came with your router. Copy-paste the following number into your browser web address:
10.0.0.138
Press enter.
Then Login with the password from the earlier part of this step.

2. Click the Firewall Settings button which will then be displayed on screen after logging in.

3. Use the Select a computer box to choose a computer to forward ports to. This box contains a list of computer names that are visible on your network. Only one computer connected to the router?

4. Click the Add a new user-defined application link.

5. Add Application name, example: WinMX.

6. Add port number in each of the 'from' and 'to' range boxes. Example, port 38120

7. Choose UDP checkbox.

8. Click Add Definition.

9. Click Back button.

10. Select the application name you just created in the Applications list (WinMx), then click the Add button to move them to the Hosted Applications box.

When you are finished, click the Done button at the bottom of your screen.

There is a comment or two about this by the LW devs several years ago. There is a maximum allowable number of uploads to a specific host. Beyond this they receive a temporary ban. I can't remember exactly how it works except I think the ban period is for about an hour or two, if they are banned again it applies for the entire session. This was based on number of requests, I think for number of files. But also intended to prevent downloading of same file over & over by same host.

What I can find after a search: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/open-d...reeloader.html, . . http://www.gnutellaforums.com/open-d...tml#post213603, . . http://www.gnutellaforums.com/limewi...tml#post334712

The following quotes are from 3.9.5 Beta & 4.1.5 Beta discussions:

The ban time isn't a specific length of time, but rather is based on the amount of requests from the host. We allow any request in the first 30 seconds we see that host, and then from then on we allow 1 request per 5 seconds. If they exceed that limit and continue to hammer, the amount of time they have to wait just grows and grows.

(And yes, client side queueing is needed, but will not be in 4.0.)

LW 5 used a variation of this system which in my experience seemed to be highly buggy with hosts being banned for almost no apparent reason. Also, this would remain in RAM memory so if you restarted LW5/LPE, the host could still get banned immediately they attempted to resume their download from you. I've seen a host get banned for trying to download a single file on many occasions. sighs. I suspect this system was based on number of request messages, not number of files. Seemed to be different logic used compared to LW 4 (& LW clones).

I think this auto-banning was also in defense against some of the older clients, which would not respect the usual or later rules of download engagement. And some clients like Morpheus would ignore queueing, somehow bumping hosts out of the queue until they reached no.1. But I'm talking about 9-10 years ago.

A preventative measure to stop this happening to you if downloading is not to queue up too many files to download from each search results. Choose 1, 2 or 3 at a time. In that way, if you are not sure they are all from same host you should not suffer the auto-ban issue. From SBerlin's description, sounds like you should wait a period of time before selecting another file to download from same host.

Someone really should start rewriting any of these clients from scratch. Things like the above defeat the purpose of P2P. where I (of someone) will find this very rare out of print album, and obviously double clicking every song on it, will be banned as a greedy servant.

Is there no way to add folder download? If not then someone should add it. That way a rare album is one request.

If I remember correctly, DC had that ability. But I don't think it exists within the Gnutella protocol.

I don't know if 'client side queuing' was ever incorporated either. Doesn't sound like it, despite devs considering it for several years.

(I'm not sure when LW 4.0 came out but must have been around late 2003 or early 2004. Looks like for 6 years the ability was never added.)

No, not really. I presume you do not have become an ultrapeer disabled in advanced settings. It's not unusual for the incoming searches to not show as a leaf.

I notice your WinMX shows signs of a firewall. You will need to check the reason for that before you will be able to become an ultrapeer again.

I installed the WinMX Music on a different Win XP & it connected immediately (comes with its own connection file) & connected with UPnP fine according to what the signs suggest.
(My other Win XP comes up with error message when I open apps even though they do open but refuse to connect, so I may need to totally wipe that XP & reinstall it.)

Attachment 6812

BTW I noticed this WinMX Music free installer said there was an update which is 5.8. My original WinMX installer didn't work because the site it obtains the data from has vanished. So I used this WMX free installer instead. The installer process went through 5 to 8 different sponsored 3rd party junkware options.
I'm curious to know what so-called improvements they've made to WinMX over the past 3 years. It still doesn't support DHT which LW started to do with LW 4.18.
