Shareaza 2.4 and i want to chat(connect with someone using bearshare 7 or 8? how do i

go about doing that?

1) My OS is XP pro SP3
2) I have EssEC NOD32 Smart Security + Spyware doctor 6 installed
3) 1 GB of RAM
4) I'm using a Motorola Cable modem connected to a TP-Link TL-WR541G Wireless router

That's impopssible. BearShare 7 and 8 use the private iMesh network where nobody from outside can connect to. (Every client connected to the iMesh network is commercial crap, BTW.)

So only users with bearshare, iMesh and Shareaza 6 can connect to each other? that sucks. So no opnesource p2p like ealry bearshare, shareaza 2.4, kazaa, utorrent, etc can connect to them?

Different network. Bearshare was sold under blackmailing pressure, ShareAza was hijacked (more than once), etc. by same people who have reps that work for RIAA. More information about that can be found at ShareAza's new forum home: Shareaza • Index page or more specifically the General Discussion area Shareaza • View forum - General Discussion

Yes, only people installing this spy-/adware ridden crap clients can connect to that network and chat with users connected to it. But anyway, who would like to have such an application on his computer, when he can have real OpenSource P2P software instead? :D

Simon, something you mentioned in your post of June 17 worries me.

There is only one true and correct version of Shareaza, and it is only available from shareaza.sourceforge.net. The latest release of the real Shareaza is version 2.4.0.0. You mentioned version 6, and that's what bothers me.

There is an anti-P2P company who are in the process of trying to steal the Shareaza name. They have already stolen the web site, shareaza.com, and now they are in the process of trying to steal the Shareaza copyright. Worse, they are offering fake versions of the Shareaza software. Those fake versions carry the names, "ShareazaV4," "ShareazaV5," and "ShareazaV6." If you are using any of those hijacked, fake versions, then you aren't using anything like the real Shareaza -- in fact, you're at risk, because they incorporate spyware inimical to file sharing.

Because the Shareaza sourceforge.net project is open-source, anyone can download and examine the source code -- and unscrupulous anti-P2P miscreants have done so.

Please, when you talk about Shareaza, be sure that you have the real version in mind!

Thanks!
