Shareaza was first released in mid-2002 with rapid development from its creator. In 2004, Shareaza became free and open source as its creator moved onto other pursuits. The project has faced internal and external battles at times, but it continues to survive and thrive in an increasingly hostile environment.

This is what has been posted on our website. To be more precise, the gnutella and G2 connection problems have been fixed, our UPnP code has been improved and DC++ has seen major updates. Also, our gnutella features support has been improved (the updates concern query hit packets, uploads without specified "Range:" header, multicast searches, "Whats New" searches, etc.)

Shareaza can be downloaded - as always - on SourceForge:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/sha...aza%202.5.5.0/

As there isn't a change log jet, I'll add a link to it once it is available.

If there are any questions, feel free to ask below this post.

Edit by LOTR:

Most recent release can usually been seen here http://shareaza.sourceforge.net/ which is better than an 18 month old 5.5 version.

Let me just take a moment to shout for joy about this new release!

YAY!!

I had the last stable release, and for all intents purposes it did not work. The only network it would rapidly, easily and consistently connect to was eDonkey. I could get G2 to connect if I did a manual search and force connect and even then the connections would only last from minutes to less than a score of hours. I could not get G1 to connect at all under any circumstances - period.

I installed this release and everything network was up an running within 3 minutes.

A "Good job" to those hard working coders out there! Thank you

No problem. We're happy if you're happy. :)

BTW, the problem you were experiencing was the main reason why this new version has been released... For some reason Hubs with "last seen" dates that lay way in the future were added to our Host Cache and those Hubs wouldn't expire - and the more "future Hubs" you had in cache, the longer the connection process would take, which means hours in the worst case...

Just so people looking here get a little update on what's going on:
  • We got BitTorrent DHT and UDP-tracker support
  • Some GUI glitches (like erroneous massages, problems with search sorting, keyboard support) have been fixed
  • A lot of Win7 native OS features are supported now
  • gnutella/G2 handshaking and connectivity have been improved

And - of course - as always, a large number of rare crashes, deadlocks and minor issues has been fixed.

If you want to try out these features, you can download our debug builds from here: Shareaza - Debug Builds
