dvd file formats

Hello
I'm a newbie and know very little about burning downloaded files onto dvd disks. What is the proper file extentsion for a dvd movie? I want to burn it onto dvd disk without having 2 convert it into dvd format from say .avi etc so that it will play on any dvd player other than my computor. Please advise.

The only type of DVD burner I've ever used is Nero and it converts the movie or video into DVD format when it's burnt onto disc.

Nero 7 is the one because it has all the codecs that other versions didn't. Including divX. Nero 7 will do it all for you! ;) Just as CyberStalker said! :)

The common file type for dvd's is .vob (the data file) and I believe you WILL have to convert to this format.

Your burners controlling software package, Nero, DVD Santa, etc needs to convert/encode the source file, eg: (your) movie.avi/mpg/mpeg etc, into this file format before it can be played on non computor based DVD players.

Two other files will also be created/split off, at this time, so as the external DVD players can recognise what to play, a .ifo (file), & a .bup (file)

The resulting "new" file string will look like the following:
Vts_01_0.bup ??KB BUP File
Vts_01_0.ifo ??KB DVD Movie Info
Vts_01_1.vob ???,???KB DVD Movie {the actual movie}

I hope this has helped :)

The file format you need if you do not want a "conversion" to occur during the burning process is a 720 x 576 3000 to 9000kb/s 48hz (or ntsc equivilent) Mpeg2. But you will still need to "author" it to DVD format. This file format is extremely rare on P2P due to its sheer size in relation to the general 320 x 240 1500kb/s AVI file most video is stored in.

To download a raw DVD file structure (IE able to burn without conversion or authoring) would be extremely dificult, because even if someone was sharing all the files from a DVD, they are generally named the same across different DVD's, and you would have no idea of exactly what files belong to which DVD, or whih ones are the ones you need.

I have Nero 7 Ultra Edition and have absolutely no idea how to use it. I have 6 full movies downloaded to my Shared folder and I can only see them with the Nero Showtime, can anyone tell me please step by step what to do so I can burn it to a dvd I can watch on any DVD Player. I'm afarid they take up too much memory space on the computer somehow and I want to burn them to dvds and delete to keep downloading and burning more. Good luck Tonithetigress. Let me know what you find out if you can.Thanks everybody. Desperate. This is a really good forum.

Download this software,
http://www.aplusfreeware.com/categor...DivxToDVD.html
use it to convert your files to DVD format, then look up your help on Nero to see how to burn it from there.
