Default Hi..I'm New Here, and I Think I Have A Problem (LW update warning)

Hi. My name is Debbie, and I hope I am posting this in the right place as I am new to all this.

I have had the free version of LimeWire for a year. Today when I opened my Limewire a window came up that said that an update was available. It gave me the option to upgrade right then, or, if I wished, it would upload automatically when I shut down Limewire.

Everything seems to work fine, but there is a yellow bar across the top of the results box that has a warning that the upgrade might be bogus with a link to read more about it.

To make a long story short, I am afraid I may have upgraded when I shouldn't have. If I did, what should I do about it? Should I uninstall my Limewire and reinstall?

Thanks so much,

Debbie

The orange warning banner with the padlock was added because there's a bogus LW update showing up in search results. It's a 75.7 KB .exe & shows up as "Urgent LimeWire update - download & install now". If people download that thing they could end up infected. To try to prevent people from downloading a dangerous file, the warning banner was added to LW's interface.

If you updated from the LimeWire site itself then you're fine. It's only when people download & install an 'update' file that they see in their LW search results (a file without the padlock icon) that they can have problems.

The padlock symbol doesn't apply to music, movies etc...just to LW updates

Thankyou Birdy for your reply.

So, it sounds as though the upgrade I got was ligit then. The message I got for the upgrade didn't say it was urgent, just that it was available. And it didn't come up during a search but when I first fired up LimeWire.

I did a virus scan last night and it all came up clean..whew.

Thanks again..much appreciated.

Debbie
