2 questions re: app.program and iTunes

I've finally finished downloading an entire book in multi-parts so I won't be spending as much time with Limewire. Afterall, I should start listening to the book <g>. My question is -- although I downloaded and saw many uploads while I was connected, do I have to have the application program open when I'm online. Or is just having the shared folder on my desktop (and the "shared" folder - firewall - checked) adequate for sharing.

My other question is that I just finished a very large item (143.9MB - no bit rate noted). It is in my "Limewire" folder and my "saved"folder. But it did not transfer over to iTunes. I can't "import" it, "add" it or drag it into iTunes. This happened once before and I just forgot about it. This file is one I really want. What can I do to get this on to my iPod via iTunes?

Thanks.
iMac OSX 10.2.8

PS. Although I registered, I noticed I'm listed as a guest and my login is denied because of a wrong user ID?????

re the forum login--try to login again and if that doesn't work, PM on of the moderators like Lord of the Rings.

LimeWire only shares files when it is running. Once quit, other gnutella users can't see or request your Shared files.

Re the big file, you'll have to find out what format it is in. Try dragging it onto Stuffit Expander (applications) in case it is an archive, which would explain why LW didn't send it to iTunes.

If it was a multi-part file that ends in ".rar", you might have to do some googling to find out how to open it on OS 10.2.8

cheers

Will contact the moderators once I clear up other stuff. thanks.

Guess that means when I'm on line I will keep the Limewire app open. No problem.

Sorry, the big file was MP3. Same as the other 152 files I've already successfully downloaded. Or, at least, that's what the icon says.<g>

Thanks for the help.

I've heard of that happening before. I'm not sure why b/c I don't have experience with audio books. iTunes cannot recognise all mp3 audio formats. Ogg Vorbis for example, which is why I have a few mp3 apps such as Audion which does recognise that format. If you have that program then try it out on it. It's quite a popular program despite iTunes. It has more encoding options such as lame than iTunes. For lame for iTunes you need to downld a special 3rd party codec. But getting back to the topic try it out on Audion if you can. Audion is one of the few apps that still produces for both OSX & OS9 & it's more than up to date with codecs such as mp3 pro (for what that's worth lol. IMHO) On mac osx I believe Audion is your best bet! You can always convert it from there such as to AIFF. Else try Toast. If Toast can recognise it then it can also convert it.

As far as membership goes, you can get the site to send you a reminder of your password, etc. I had that problem after deleting the cache & cookies of my browser. Learn from ones mistakes.

I tried Audion. It played the item but to convert it to another format would have taken forever. It also did something weird to my iPod. It looked like I dragged and dropped the book into the iPod. The window showed some action. When I checked the iPod, not only did it not xfer, it removed the track names from a good number of items already there. The info was actually still there. It just had to be reminded by a line by line review.

IOW, I think I'll pass on Audion. I'm really not technically oriented and these programs seem to be beyond me.

Thanks anyway.

PS. Sorry for the delay in replying. I lost my ISP. Checking into switching to cable rather than DSL. AT&T is not very supportive of Mac.
