Bearshare has to be the ultimate

Hi folks.
I had problems with all other file sharing applications, like Frostwire and LW. However i have downloaded Bearshare version 5.1.0b25 along with the Bear Start utility. This was suggested by AaronWalkhouse in one of the forums and i gotta say im very impressed with the speed.
The only thing i cant work out now is how to disable my bloody ITunes software from starting up literally every time a song downloads!.
If anyones got any suggestions for that i'd be grateful.

In BearShare, go to Setup/iTunes and turn it off.
In iTunes, go into the settings and set it to not start when Windows boots up.

Try this one.

Hello again, i've got two more concerns regarding the BearStart utility:

1) Do i have to worry about the time limit, for instance will i eventually have to change something to reset the dates ?.

2) Is there a way i can stop the error message "This version of BearShare has expired" from popping up. It appears every time i log into my windows account, its even appearing on other user accounts.

AaronWalkhouse October 4th, 2007 11:02 AM

1. No.

2. Go into Setup/Options and turn off "Launch BearShare on System Startup.

Thanks Aaron.

One more question then i'll leave this forum alone i promise....

How long does it generally take to download a song? Lets say the size is roughly 2.7 MB. For me it takes 3-4 munites on a good day, but on a bad day it can take 7 munites although this is rare.
BTW, my internet connection runs at 6.6Mb, but i notice that most of the sources you download MP3's from give readings as Dial-up connections.

AaronWalkhouse October 4th, 2007 02:41 PM

Looks like you answered your own question there. ;]

Adasel October 4th, 2007 03:09 PM

No no no , only SOME of the ones i download from are dial-up, but i was just wondering what the general download time was for me or for anyobdy else.
Like i say i am using 6.6 MB broadband and most songs take 3-4 munites, 7 if its rare or bad lagg. I was only wondering what lengths of time it took for anyone else.

AaronWalkhouse October 4th, 2007 09:21 PM

They can take anywhere from 30 seconds and up on a broadband connection like yours.
Less than ten minutes is not unusual.

Okay thanks Aaron.
Ursula thankyou also !

If i can get my song download speed down to 30 seconds as Aaron suggested, i will be one happy bunny ! :P
Although i am grateful Bearshare is working properly for me at last and hopefully sometime soon, i can begin to help other users who are just starting out with this wonderful piece of software.

Many thanks all !.

I had Bearshare awhile back and liked it but when I got a new PC with Vista, it wasn't compatible with this Op. Oh well...

ursula November 14th, 2007 10:15 AM

Hey, pattypoo

Please... Post again and tell us what happened with your attempt to install BearShare and your delightful Vista...

Any 'warning' or 'alert' notes... whatever...

Please, OK ?

btw... Welcome to Gnutellaforums !!!

pattypoo November 14th, 2007 11:15 AM

If you saw my profile you would see my age of 69...Senior citizen...can't remember much of anything that happened 3 minutes ago much less 8 months ago when I got this new PC with the wonderful Vista. LOL. All I remember is when I tried to dl Bearshear it said..."Fagetaboutit! You got Vista" :nono:...or something like that. Thanks for the welcome! P

Solan July 12th, 2009 03:36 PM

is there still a bearshare trivia

Solan July 12th, 2009 03:37 PM

trivia

where is bearshare trivia?

Lord of the Rings July 12th, 2009 03:51 PM

Pardon? hehe :D
Hey I have lots of trivia question stuff. :p If I knew more about what you meant, perhaps it can be incorporated ..

Solan July 12th, 2009 03:55 PM

There used to be a bearshare site with a trivia bot and a moderator, there were several regulars and really cool questions. It was offsite the bearshare search engine and then I couldn't find it anywhere

Lord of the Rings July 12th, 2009 04:00 PM

Sounds cool actually. Let us talk it over with the other mods & admins & we shall see what we can do. If they used a special bot .. we'd need to investigate or use a different technique.

Peerless July 12th, 2009 04:52 PM

I'm thinking such a thing would really eat up bandwidth and resources...
