BearShare and Riaa team up?Vinnie?

Vinnie this question is directly for you.

Is BearShare helping the RIAA spy on Gnutella and are yall teamed up with the RIAA?

YES OR NO?

evilmegaman July 22nd, 2002 08:34 PM

Syfonic, after doing a little research, I have a question for you.....

Aren't you in fact an RIAA employee sent here to discourage people from using BearShare (and other p2p servents)?

You've chosen your nic as a code for other RIAA people to track your efforts. "Syfonic" is merely a shortened version of "symphonic", a term used on vinyl records back in the 60's.... records that the RIAA would want to protect.

tsk tsk.... your little scheme isn't working. Go bother the real crooks in the music business - the record companies themselves!!!

Why do you take the freedom to ask such a ridiculous question??
Do you have any *evidence* or reason to ask this?

Joakim Agren July 24th, 2002 08:13 AM

Hello!

Yes the question might seem rediculous now days but it was not back in the middle of the year 2001.Some suspicion rised back then when rumors where floating around that some BS developers have been payed a large sum of money to help out the RIAA cathing individual users. The way they where supposed to do that was to incorporate special hidden spy functions in their client and send the data back to the RIAA as evidence of distribution of illegal copyrighted material. Also the indroduction of the Extended QueryHit message back then by BearShare further increased suspicion.I have looked after the article where I read this but it seems that it is no where to be found anymore.

Personally I do not think that BearShare developers are cooperating with the RIAA and the introduction of Secure channels and anti Hostile host functions in the most recent release of their software is proof of that. Even if those functions is not completely secure either from beeing caught by the RIAA.But atleast it is harder for the RIAA to catch sharers.

I gather only a handful of people have bothered to read the BearShare EULA.

We're thinking about removing the EULA for various reasons, it could be of benefit to everyone to get rid of it.

Besides, the protections afforded by secure channels are likely to be bypassed soon so we must roll out the next generation of security features.

Syfonic July 26th, 2002 05:25 PM

Who does and does not work for the RIAA is none or your business.

Not all RIAA employees are bad, some support filesharing and just help the RIAA and in return the RIAA protects them.

I support filesharing :)

zeroshadow July 26th, 2002 06:35 PM

???

How can someone "support filesharing and just help the RIAA" at the same time?

Last I read the RIAA didn't support filesharing. Infact they seemed to think that filesharing was causing the end of the world (or their world, to be more exact).

Any help that you give to the RIAA is helping to stop filesharing, not "support" it.

Syfonic July 26th, 2002 06:50 PM

Some people help the RIAA with their programming and not just trying to shut down the P2P world.

Paradog July 27th, 2002 02:36 AM

Programming a client which spreads wrong queryhits and with the correct hash? A client which floods the entire network?

Starting to get Suspicious!

Hello!

I dont know maybe it is just me getting a bit paranoid but I have started to suspect that Syfonic might be working for the RIAA or is somehow associated with someone whitin the RIAA(Maybe a spy??).We have seen several posts here regarding his client but so far just alot of talk but no result. And now in this thread he started attacking the BearShare Developers with a suspicion that they might be working for the RIAA hence indicating a disslike for the RIAA and their likes. But now suddenly he defends them and says that not all of them are bad and that they are not our business.I can see 3 reasons why someone would defend them:

1.He works for them or are sent out as a spy for them to monitor this forum!
2.He have friend or someone else close to him that are Assocciated with the RIAA.
3.He supports RIAA and are one of their PEERS who do their dirty business on Gnutella such as distributing Spoof files on Gnutella.

If you really are developing a client it must mean that you support the File Sharing community. But if you defends the RIAA who wants nothing more then for Gnutella to be shut down then I think that is a strong indicator that you are a liar and are not developing anything at all and that you are just here to gather information about the Gnutella community for the RIAA.

You should not interprett this post as a hositle post directed directly to you just yeat.I just want to hear your response and see If you will make my suspicion go away or if you will just increase it.Because so far your posts in this thread is a bit schizofrenic.

Paradog July 27th, 2002 11:21 AM

Forget it,
Syfonic is just one of those bigmouth who are excited about gnutella and think that they can code by talking.

I bet he doesnt know any coding language and will use a source of limewire or gnucleus to adapt.

zeroshadow August 2nd, 2002 03:46 PM

I don't know about coding languages, but he sure knows the bigmouth language.

And the winner is

There is some very serious competition out there, and this competition is growing every day....... But, this thread is still the winner for

The coveted MARANSA

Most Absurdly Ridiculous and Asinine Nonsense of the Summer Award

Congratulations, Syfonic :p

ummm:rolleyes: Syfonic is probably my age or something

Syfonic August 27th, 2002 09:40 AM

Weather I do or do not work for the RIAA does not matter. I support filesharing. Age doesnt matter in programmer, I know a 14 year old that know 7 languages.
