*Death of me.

I recently downloaded BearShare, thinking it would be a nice way to get some files I needed. Unfortunately, I have sat for days on end trying to get even one file... All my 2500+ attempts at even ONE file, which appeared to be extremely abundant, all ended up in failure of some sort. I know there are no problems with the way anything is set up, as I have tested it with a friend in another country successfully.

Why doesn't this infernal protocol work? I don't know. I'm only going to be trying this a little bit longer and if it doesn't work, I'll definitely be pissed.

The funny thing is that there are already things that are terrible but at least better than this!

Re: Death of me.

Hallo:

first I have to say that, besides my personal and mostly subjective dislikes, Bearshare is a very reliable and well-written servent, so I am a little bit wondering, for I have used it myself until recently. We here will surely try to help you, but you have to give us some more specific information.

How did you count this? :-) Ok, no joke, I think a possibility is that your shared folders and esp. the download folder is misconfigured. Check also the [temp] folder for incomplete downloads, is it existing? And in the right place?

You said that you are able ti find files, so I presume you are connected correctly.... Hmm... tell us more....

Greetings....

Me again...

1: There is nothing wrong with the client. Absolutely nothing is wrong with the client. I agree with you that it is well written and reliable. As I said, I successfully tested it with a friend... I was actually using it as an alternative to mailing files.

2: The way I counted was having the "Clear failed" unchecked, then from curiosity... scrolled through until my fingers were about to fall off.

3: I checked and all is well with the folders. The downloads never commenced, so there were none there. They started and instantly turned to error, failed, or busy. The busy ones eventually errored or failed.

If there isn't a evident problem than there is no evident solution. I dunno, I guess I'm just doomed.

ok, give some more info

hm ... this sounds strange. think you need to provide some more info. have you tried to download just one specific file? if so, try to download something popular. you are using bearshare? make general searches (like for "mp3") and sort by "QoS". Scroll to the top and choose a file with a fully green bar. Try a few times and report if you have been successful (report to the bearshare forum though - this forum is supposed to be about the gnutella network in general).

if you can download other files well, then give more specific info on the file you are trying to download. maybe the problem lies there?!? and be a bit patient, it needs some time to find the right searching strategies etc. but believe me, gnutella works - and it will work for you also :)
