Unwanted Lycos

I downloaded LimeWire yesterday, and after a few bugs got it up and running. My problem however is that after installation, Lycos has replaced my sidebar search on my homepage web browser. I have gone through my computer and destroyed the tons of lycos files that I did not have before, but cannot get rid of the lycos search. It makes noise and clicks over every time I try to use Google, my preference. It limits my searches. It is not in my toolbar, it is off to the left side of my browser page, where favorites pop up. Please help me remove lycos from my computer. I also am not happy that when I deleted wireshop, it left scattered files everywhere, and appears to be trying to take over my computer. I sent an email to LimeWire asking for help and letting them know I was angry about the Lycos takeover and received links and a note stating they are backlogged, as well as a disclaimer that they 'are not able to reply to requests that are not polite and articulate'. I believe I was polite, but considering there is no telephone support, and the way their hidden files take over you computer, I can imagine there are plenty of furious people out there. I'd like to know what happened to customer service... I think the big corps have it built into their business plan that the advertisers and popups are more valuable than providing good customer service that would make people happy enough to buy their other products. Just my opinion, of course. Anyone with instructions on how to destroy Lycos on my browser, please email me.... Thanks. Too bad I am having to ask for this info in a forum- I feel I should be paying the forum members for their assistance.

See thats the great thing about gnutella being an open network.... if one client has spy/adware in their service you can always go and find another client that has none. I wont mention the names of any of those because I know it will turn into a flame war, but if you're not satisfied with a client because of the extras it adds, then simply look for another client. Im not exactly sure how to remove the lycos thing, but have you tried adaware by lavasoft, it removes most spy/adware.

Sidebar search takeover

I have found out how to change the sidebar search when it has been taken over by a spyware:

You can change the information and supply the search engine you want to use. It follows the tree breakdown better than some info sites that just show blaa/growl/index/regedit... types of thing and was easy for a newbie-type user such as myself to use it easily. Even though I had searched my computer and deleted any file including 'lycos', every time I used my google search Lycos would pop up and sort my search. For example, my search of 'delete lycos' in google popped up lycos showing "no pages found', and 'change search engines' popped up a number of stores lycos wanted me to visit. My problem is now fixed, and I hope this info helps someone else.
