Can sharing too many files slow PC?

I would like to share as many of my music files as I can. However when I make them all available - about 17,000 file - my PC slows down to such a "crawl" that I cannot do any other work on my PC while LW is running and sharing? I this common? When I reduce the number of shared files - down to under 2,000 - the speed picks back. Any suggestions?
