[Resolved] DVD burning problems I've been using DVD Santa to burn DVDs and was getting along fine with it until yesterday. I tried burning a DVD and got an error message saying "DVD Santa has encountered a problem and needs to close" I've had the same error message today, so thought I'd try a different program. Downloaded DVD Burning Xpress, fired it up and got another error message "DVD Burning Xpress has encountered a problem and needs to close" What's happened? How can I fix it? :( |
What was the common factor? Were you trying to burn the same file? If so, did you scan that file for errors? |
I've tried to burn three different files in both Santa DVD and Xpress. |
It was about time for a monthly Windows Update wasn't it? Maybe one of those Microsoft patches got in your way. Try uninstalling your DVD burners, reboot, and then reinstall or even update them. |
I'll try that tomorrow and see if it works, cheers! |
Brilliant. That worked. Cheers! |
This has just started happening again. I've tried uninstalling DVD Santa, rebooting and then installing it again, but the same error message appears. Any idea of what else I can try? |
Do any of those programs provide more details about the errors? |
I use dvdsanta and have come across this problem a few times... Its one of the files and now you need to work out which one it is if not all 3.. You can start by checking the file on Bitzi http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showthread.php?t=37676 info on how to use Bitzi... I have also done what Aaron has suggested deleting the app and re-downloading it and I have fixed the problem that way, but when it continues to happen it has to be the file... What happens to your shared folder (outside of LW) when you open it to access your files???;) |
It gives an error report. I'd post what the report says but it doesn't allow you to highlight so I can't c&p it. After reinstalling Santa last time, it allowed me to burn the files I was trying to before. As for this file that I want to burn now, Bitzi says it's a good copy and I can play it fine on the computer. So I think the files are fine. I've just found something though. As soon as Santa starts encoding the file the error message pops up. Before, I just clicked to either send the error report or to not send and the whole programme shut down. But I've just tried not clicking anything in ther error window, moved it out of the way and found that the file is still being encoded. So I thought that maybe I'd be able to burn the file despite having the error message up. But, it's just finished encoding and as soon as the Burn Now window should have popped up, Santa crashes. |
One more thing, could it be to do with Windows Updates? I've got my computer set to automatically download updates and think it was downloading something yesterday. |
Hello, if your shared folder is giving an error report there is definatley something in there thats making Santa crash.... I dont think it has anything to do with the updates though... When the error report from your shared folder appears click on the part where it says more information (I think its something like that, I dont have an error report in front of me lol) Find out the code of the error and then do a search of your comp for that file, when it finds it delete it... Once you have that done go back to your shared folder and see what file has gone..Santa should work fine from then on... Please let me know how your going with this ;) |
Before I click for more info, the error signature it gives is this: "AppName: dvdsanta.exe AppVer: 1.0.0.1 ModName: xvid.ax ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 0003d928" When I click to view the error report (Sorry that I can't c&p this here), it gives this: "Exception Information Code: 0xc0000094 Flags: 0xc00000000 Record: 0xc0000000000000000 Address: oxc000000001003d928" Then it gives some system info and then about 60 module things. Erm. Like "module 1 dvdsanta.exe image base: 0xc00400000"... It goes on like that for ages. (I'm not too compatible with these things, please bear with me! :) ) I've tried searching for the code:0xc0000094 on my computer, but it's not found anything. Thankyou for you help so far! |
Hmmm, Ive never had the actual Santa come up in the report... try typing in xvid.ax into the search and let me know what it comes up with.. I'm not all that computer savy myself I tend to play around until it's fixed lol.. We will work this out together...;) |
You can probably C&P it to notepad by pressing Ctrl+C then opening notepad and clicking on paste or pressing enter. Not that I could tell anything from the error report but somebody might be able to. |
I've found the xvid.axfile, but I'm not sure which programme I need to open it with. When I try to open it it asks to select a programme or search on the web. Searching on the web opens up this: http://shell.windows.com/fileassoc/0...dir.asp?Ext=ax But that's just a blank page. Ctrl & C doesn't work either. It won't let me highlight anything in the error report. |
Perhaps all you need is an updated XviD codec: Nic's Binary - XviD_Install.exe - NEW |
Hmmm, try what Aaron has suggested, that could be the solution... Please keep posting back and letting us know.. We will fix this...;) |
I've installed the new codec and I still get the error message. Is there anything else I need to do once I've installed the codec? |
Ok...Try removing Santa and all traces of it off your computer and then download it again http://www.dvdsanta.com We will see if that makes a difference now...;) |
No such luck! I uninstalled, restarted and installed it again but still got the error message. :( I'd be happy to use remote assistance, if anyone is willing and thinks they might be able to get more of an idea of what's wrong. |
Ok what happens when you put an old file in - one that you have already burnt successfully, does the error still come up.. |
Check that .avi file with this thing: video-fixer |
The last file that I burnt is being encoded. Well, it's still going. When I try to burn the file that I want, the error report usually pops up after about 10 secs, but the old file has been going for about 3 min without any glitches. I've just tried the Video Fixer. Can't check it without registering, but clicked to fix it and then tried Santa again. Still get the error... |
Unless, do I need to restart before any changes come into effect? |
I really think its the file if the video fixer doesn't fix it get rid of it... BTW Aaron I've bookmarked that site, it will come in handy... Look for another one on LW instead... By the sounds of it something goes wrong in the conversion process and when it goes to burn it crashes Santa... |
Looks like it must be. I'll download another one and see how I get on. Cheers for all your help, much appreciated:) |
Hey wondering why hasn't seen the stickies for CODECs list and alternate players for Movies 2nd post. It's been there for a while. lol :D Hey I caught you out! lol :D |
Thats cool please let us know how it goes with the new file or if you have any more problems... Happy Burning ;) |
Oh dear I've been busted, I didn't even relise that was there:o Its time for me to re-visit the stickies...:p |
Yeah the Lord has be a busy boy the last couple of months reorganizing and adding to Stickies. If you don't pay attention he will sneak something in and you will not know it. Then you will spend hours researching something for a member and post it and wonder why their isn't a Sticky on the subject. Then you start checking out the Stickies and notice some changes and all of the sudden  there it is. The Lord snuck it in on you. It took me twice to before I learned to check the Stickies on a regular basis. No telling what the Lord Has been up to. :) Hey Lord good job on the updates to the Stickies. I for one would like to say thank you. And it is appreciated. |
Footbacon strikes again! :D I found a different source, downloaded and burned the programme all ok. (yay!) Only trouble is, everybody on it looks like an Oompa Loompa. Erm. The colour is completely off, orange faces and really dark. When I open the actual file on the computer, the colour is fine. (Not sure why but I can't seem to play the burned dvd on the computer) I've tried different DVD players and it has the same problem. If the problem is occuring when the dvd is being burned, is there anything I can do to stop it Oompa Loompafying things? |
Hey Footbacon, Try burning at the slowest speed and also there is a choice of burning in either PAL or NTSC, make sure your dvd players are either one of those compatible... Also you need to check if your comp uses DVD+R or DVD-R... Also the brand of disc can make a difference, I personally use either Imation or Verbatim... I have used TDK before and could not get them to work in any of my players except the PS2... So theres some possible explanations as to why this is happening... Hope this helps get rid of the Oompa Loompas lol....:D |
Hi again, My dvd burner is DVD- and I'm using Phillips DVD-RW discs. It's doing it in PAl which is the righttype for my player too. I've just tried burning at the slowest speed and I still have Oompa Loompas. (Maybe it's because I'm trying to record WW & the Choc factory...) |
I've burnt the file! :D After uninstalling both Santa and Burning-Xpress, I only downloaded Santa again. I fiddled about with Santa for a while today and still got orange people on the burnt dvd. So, I downloaded Burning Xpress again and went for the slowest speed burn (first and last time I used Xpress, the sound was out of sync.) Just stuck the dvd on and it's perfect! |
Excellent...:D I dont know why Santa would give you Oompa Loompas lol.. I've never come across them myself :D |
It's happened to me once before with a proper DVD. It was a Terry Gilliam film though and expected it to be slightly odd, so I didn't really question it and watched the whole film like that. Wasn't until after I turned the dvd player off and saw that all of the telly programmes were dark and orange, when I realised I'd sat on the remote control and altered the brightness. :p :D |
Hi, I too was tearing my hair out when all of a sudden my DVDSanta stopped working and kept shutting down. After a lot of research and shouting at the screen, I discovered that by installing this codec pack http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...Codec_Pack.htm it removed all the previous codecs I'd installed willy nilly (I was getting desperate and downloading them all) It reinstalled all the latest ones, and now my DVDSanta is fine. I was a bit nervous about it uninstallling all my lovely codec packs but it seems there were conflicts between some of them and this pack has been tested so there are none at all. Thought this might help someone... :-) |
dvd santa has encountered a problem and needs to close hi i had the same problem, i downloaded xvid codec and that solved my problem. hope this helps. |
