BearShare 5.2.5

I'm a long time Bear Share user but, a first time poster. So I want to hi because the rules say so. lol

I had Bear Share 5.2.5 for a very long time. Loved it. About 4 months ago I re-formatted the computer, re-installed everything, re-installed Bear Share and now it won't connect. So I installed the new Bear Share 8 to see if it would work and it did but i don't like it as well and would really like to go back to 5.2.5. How can I get it back up and running?

put this in your db folder which is in program files\bearshare\db..actually copy that whole list, then open the connect.txt file in the aforementioned file and paste it over what's there....

when i copied the the thing u gave me, in the DB folder/connect.txt,
i got this message that says it can not create the C:/Program file/bear share/db/connect.txt Make sure the path and file name are correct.
what should i do now??

hmmmmm.....

hmmmm...

I would attach a connect.txt file but its too damn big for an attachment...

try this: copy that whole thing in the link....create a new .txt document on your desktop named connect.txt...paste the info into that...save it...close it...then copy the whole thing into the db folder...

if that fails then you need to make sure that the folder is not read only...right click on the db folder and untick the read only option...

i even tried to make a NEW txt. file. deleting the old connect.txt putting in the NEW one ii made. then running bear share and still no connection

I made a connection cache file somewhere on the forum. http://www.gnutellaforums.com/host-c...bearshare.html shows it in detail & 2nd link in first post as you load it links you to an alternative connection cache.

awb February 9th, 2010 02:22 PM

it worked! thanks to all who posted.
p.s. are we allowed to discuss downloads or will it result in a ban? awb

Peerless February 9th, 2010 03:36 PM

in general it is verboten to discuss file names...sometimes its allowed, but rarely..

its safest to just use veiled statements...i.e. I just downloaded a video of a movie that is currently in theaters and I'm very happy about it all...

awb February 9th, 2010 04:19 PM

is there a place that we can discuss download?

awb February 9th, 2010 04:32 PM

i guess what im asking.. is there a way to make/fill request?

This is your best shot and try this one here first: BSTEST5010b25.rar - 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download

Download the installer and run the installer with this permission "run as administrator" and before you run BearShare do the same to desktop icon and try to add compartible mode for XP as well...Remember the real BearShare was coded for XP and not for Vista or Win7...But if you use compartible mod for XP it should be able to run even on Win7...If the first installer does not work for you try this one here:

Hope this helps! ;)

The first bearshare link works but it sets the date back to 05 and doesn't change it. I tried the Using the xp compatibillty mode but didn't work. I also can't use windows virtual xp machine due to me not being geniune on win7.
Will try the 2nd link soon.
Thanks file_girl

You can try the first link again as well...I have made two new installers, one for XP and one for Vista and Win7.I have made few changes to the BSLoader which should make it more Vista and Win7 friendly...Plus check your PM too lol! I guess this is why i still keep my old XP pc too, and I have no problem with run the old Bear in full speed and trottle...;)
