Cheated by crazy domains

A warning to all - DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH CRAZY DOMAINS they WILL RIP YOU OFF . They messed up my domain name I paid them $60.00AUD they misspelt the domain name when I emailed them to sort it out they said they would refund then later I received another email saying they could not refund but they were quick to unregister the domain name I am now left with no choice but to see if any others have had this problem with them and if you have let's start a class action against these MONGRELS. Anyone interested in doing this can contact me (edited private information out.) I do know one thing (though not a lawyer) these people are acting in direct violation of consumer laws in Australia.:bangh:

I would have thought they would simply correct the spelling of the domain name. Particularly if it were their mistake and not yours for accidentally informing them with a misspelling.

I have not registered a domain name though I was considering it earlier in the year. Depends on the purpose of the domain I guess, business or pleasure/recreational. As it is, my ISP offers free web hosting but the site name would be the same as the account name with them. Otherwise I'd need to register a domain name and a business web hosting site.

Australian domain names require proof of Australian business residency. Normally $44.00/yr but presently $22.00 for the first year. $60 does not sound cheap in comparison. Even international domain names only cost AUD$30/yr.

From what I can ascertain, they are probably an Australian registered business to be marketing out .au domains. If you did not get what you paid for, or get a refund, then you are fully within your right to take them to consumer affairs or take legal action against them, I guess in the small business claims tribunal. But first thing to try is negotiate with a level-head with them for what you are wanting. If first person you speak to from their company does not give ground, then ask to speak to someone higher up in the command chain. If all attempts at level headed negotiation fail then seek advice from consumer affairs (there might be a more appropriate government body to speak to in this scenario. My remarks/advice are off top of my head.)

If you paid via credit card, you can have the credit company cancel the payment. It will then be up to crazyd to prove that you got what you paid for.

Always use a credit card to pay for goods & services (especially on-line)

Hi Guys

I would definitely agree with Blackhorse 70V on this one and go on to say that you should never use anything but a credit card to buy goods and services simply because you get more protection than just the standard.

I heard this story on Money Box, a BBC finance programme for ordinary people, a scam company (William Electronics) set up a website offering electrical goods at £50.00 below the best retail prices available. The only thing was that the scammers wanted payment via bank direct transfer.

Well, the people who ordered their goods did not get anything, some of them went to the police and got no help, the police said the customers had to wait 28 days from date of complaint before they would do anything (British police are quite naff when it comes to on-line crime), others went to the address of these scammers and found nothing, the company had shut up shop and moved on (probably to scam again under another name).

But what is worse, there is absolutely no protection when transferring money directly to a retailer's bank account, your money is gone. If you do not get the goods you have paid for then you have now become a creditor and have effectively lost your money.

However, if those scammed people had used their credit cards they would've got their money back.
