Icon change in Photoshop

Have created a folder on desktop for a list of books typed out in WORD and, to my annoyance, the folder is saved as an icon with the Photoshop logo (emblem).

The folder will not open with Photoshop but only with WORD.

Although I changed the desktop icon marked with the Photoshop emblem to another icon of my choice, the computer persists in showing the Photosohp icon.

I used the following method to change the icon, but it did not work out well.

1. On desktop, I went to the START button.
2. I right-clicked on the Photoshop icon and I selected PROPERTIES.
3. In the shortcut tab, I clicked the CHANGE ICON BUTTON.
4. I chose one of the other available icons.
5. I clicked APPLY and OK.
6. The new icon will not pop up on desktop.

Please help, I am lost.

Many thanks in advance.

Joe

If you are definitely referring to a folder and not a file, then why not remove the documents from within the folder. Delete that folder and create a fresh folder & then return the documents back into the folder. ;)

Sounds like the folder has somehow turned into a file. Perhaps a hidden file extension such as .psd accidentally added to the name of the folder (or combination of extensions.)

As suggested earlier, might be easier to simply create a new fresh folder.

And if LOTR's suggestion doesn't work, here's how I change icons in Win 10...

Right click on the desktop icon > Properties > Customise > Change Icon > select the icon you want to use > OK > Apply > OK.

Thanks for prompt reply, but unfortunately it didn't work. The document keeps getting saved in the Photoshop icon.

Have even retyped the whole document in Word, but still, when it is saved, it pops up in the Photoshop icon.

Kine regards.

OK so you are referring to a file not a folder. Two possibilities: That might be related to the system's training as to what type of file it is and the type of program it belongs to. Might also be an app association relationship as to what file types are considered belonging to it.

I would right-click the file, choose Properties, General -> Type of file, Opens with MS Word. If MS Word is not listed then click the Change option & find the MS Word program & set it to always open with. Click option to always open with this app.
There are times I just want the app to open with a certain app and not the default so I set it to open with the alternative app for just that or those specific files.
