Help enhancing the quality of the shared files!

I'd like to call upon every user of any Gnutella servent to help enhancing the quality of the shared files.

- Control the quality of the music you downloaded. Listen the songs before you put them in your upload directory. Delete them if you find incomplete songs or songs with prefixes and appendixes made by freaks or songs with scratches or missing parts.

- Never put your .temp directory on your shared directories list

- Don't put your download directory on the shared list neither. Check the files and copy the good ones in your shared directory.

- Rename the files correctly if you find incorrect filenames (wrong names, wrong authors/singers, wrong titles) or if you find filenames with hit-generators (long strings of characters which contain all of the most looked-for search strings like divx, sex, porn, britney, teen...)

It could also be possible that the music industry is trying to flood networks like gnutella with rotten quality files so that good files become harder to find and you'll end up buying the cd.

Less can be more, if the quality of the downloaded files is good, p2p will survive. Keep up the good work, tell your friends.

Best regards,

oppossum

i took my download folder off the sharing list, until i can preview what it is, and sometimes knock the file name down to something under 40 letters. :P THEN i move it to my shared folders... It's up to all of us to help keep everything running smooth! Happy sharing!

I'm glad to see people like this. I do the same thing. I preview and clean up my files after a night of downloading (filenames, etc).
Its all up to the users to make this thing work.

I too do the same, all my files are listened to first and renamed accurately. Also I run MP3 Tagger, this inserts kbps, mhz, file length.
si a typical file would come up on a search as; B**tles-Hey Dude.mp3 160kbps-44mhz-3m15s.

And PLEASE : DON'T JUST SHARE MUSIC FILES!!!!

The Gnutella Net is there for all files you may like to find, may like to share.
That includes .zip, .exe, .avi etc.

Ensure you virus scan program files before using them.
And don't panic if you get one or the other with a virus or a trojan, it is a worthwhile experience and will strengthen your knowledge and subsequent PC setup to be more secure thereafter.

Very good virus program (free for personal use) is F-Prot.
It runs from DOS, which is better to detect some viruses then with Windows running, while checking.
It is constantly updated (manually) with new virus .dat files.
It removes found viruses neatly.

Also note, that there are lately some nasty virus on the Gnutella Net, which take on the name of the file you are actually searching on!
They vary in size from 8KB to over 250KB.
They usually have no extension (just your filename you searched on), or an .exe extension.

After cleaning, some small cleaned exe files may no longer work and have to be re-installed.

Freedom is like this. There is no control, there is usefull and harmfull, good and bad. You may gain, just survive or be eaten!
That's Gnutella Net! Great potential.

Should remember forever the guy (who was it???) in name, song and words, having the idea, creating the first version (gnutella.exe) not so long ago and showing the way, others are pushing along..........

quality control

Thanks for the sticky on quality! I dunno if anyone will seriously take note?

I wish there was more quality control features on this so malicious or lazy people wouldnt exploit it. Wish people would please stop sharing stuff which is roughly edited, patched up,damaged or ripped/encoded at really low bi-rates.

Is it really worth having on your pc, is it worth sharing ?

I know everyone has different tastes & preferences,
the choice should be available but still.. some of
the CRAP in circulation... it`s mind boggling.

i am verry happy to see other people who think that the trash on the network is a big problem. i personaly look for .WAV files (a .WAV file is an un-compressed music file and they yeald TRUE CD quality) and i am sick of weeding thru all the halfassed wavs that were made from mp3s . i make shur i share onley high quality stuff. i have ripped lots of wav files from my cd colection and i label them verry well ie, name ,track#,album name ,artist and of corse the ones iv ripped from my own cds i label "from origanal CD -no mp3 conversions" and the wavs i dl i listen to verry carfuley to make shur there "true" and not made from mp3s. i also have some programs that im shur work fine and have all the instructions and keys ect.:)
