Copyright, screencaps, and my hosting company
 

My hosting provider is being paranoid and refusing to let me post a handful of screencaps from anime series and panels from manga for promotional purposes. (To spice up reviews and so on)

They have already stated that "everyone else does it without problems" isn't good enough.

Does anyone know which part of American copyright law I should quote to prove that they won't get in trouble? I know it's OK for review sites and e-stores to do so without any extra costs.

I am Canadian and so is the parent company but the hosting sub-company is based in Atlanta.

id think that your probobley safe puting it up . worst case would be that u get it up and then whoever holds the copyright would contact you and politeley tell you to remove it from the site (but then agen they might be pricks about it and sue you) . the latter is verry unlikeley , but if people can sue eachother over stupid things like spilling coffie on yourself at mcdonalds or teenagers for downloading medeocar qualety 128k mp3s then id say anything is possibul.

AFAIK in USA you can take whatever images you like from other sites, etc. But that's not the case in my country! I guess it depends upon where you live. See Pizza Special with xtra toppings According to a friend of mine who I onced worked for, it's easier to set up a site in the usa than here.
