DVDs support diverse audio formats. Some feature uncompressed PCM audio:

Before you start nut-picking on others, look at your own posts please and collect some information on the topic before you try to correct others. I never claimed that all DVDs contain PCM audio only that it can be found on such media. Just to repeat my point: PCM is supported in all kinds of hardware and software, it can be thought of as the lowest common denominator of audio formats.

No matter how bad I am, your swears and offenses will always tell more about yourself than me.

However, you only save about 50% by any of the known lossless audio formats. Uncompressed PCM audio (like in WAV files but also on CDs and DVDs) has been around for decades and it's unlikely that it'll ever become unusable as it's so simple and well-known. Lossless audio compression is only really useful if you cannot afford the additional diskspace or for remote transfers to save half the time.
Actually I've saved lossless audio files down as little as 20-30% of original size using Apple's Lossless format (though average is 50-60%.) PCM audio is 48 KHz & due to its high bitrate is the non-prefered audio format for video due to the space it takes up on DVD's & the need to keep the combined audio & video bitrates below that that can be played without problems on "any" set-top DVD player. With greater sizes of hard disk drives & ever increasing in size, compressed lossless formats are much more practical nowadays. There's certainly a wise range of mp3 encoders out there. Not forgetting m4a format.
