.asx files

What kind of file is an .asx? I've come across a few of them when looking for videos. The file size is usually around 0.3KB. Could this be some form of spam?

I'd never heard of asx before. I'd heard of .asf (click on link) which is a crappier version of video format than wmv.

.asx is normally the file which links to the .asf file which are normally found on the Internet on IIS (Microsoft's commercial web server) ran sites.

most people hate .asx/.asf files because they're proprietary, which basically means one company makes a funny file format for their own personal gain. if they would just name it .avi or .mpg, everything would be ok :rolleyes:
