Christian Music, Pagan Music, faith and all...

Here to a discussion, which went heavily offtopic :)

I'm copying all the offtopic-text here and I'm editing it out of my own messages, please do the same, mslilly.

Original Thread: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...5&pagenumber=2

How that OT came to be... :)

mslilly: I have downloaded two programs I share p2p with, and never have downloaded any files with viruses, and I have tons of MUSIC!! Of course it's Christian music, maybe that's why?

arne_bab: @mslilly: Since I know of no reason, why you should have these problems only with LW (except, that you might have been cursed by the great limette god), might you please tell us, what program you where so satisfied with (except if is te iTunes Music Store).

Besides: There's a ton of great pagan music out there, which you might want to check out

mslilly: Meant by his post - "limette god"? If you are speaking of my God, the G is CAPITALIZED! Haha.
...
And arne_bab - thanks but no thanks, I'll stick to my Christian music!! Have you ever listened to it lately? It's truly not boring! Contemporary Christian is very good music!!

ultracross: btw mslilly, im lobbying at limewire to add the christian/christian rock genre's to the genre search.

My personal favorite christian rock bands include but not limited to: jars of clay, audio adrenaline and relient k.

arne_bab: If you add christian, than please add pagan and jewish and similar.

It's all one breed.

@mslilly: I don't capitalize gods, normally, except when writing german (its a noun, thus capitalized).

I don't know, what a god is, so no reason to treat it any different than any other being or nonbeing.

Besides: There are so many gods out there (and every one of them gets capitalized by its believers) that I see no reason to treat your god especially..

The only difference is, maybe, the great Murphy :)

ukbobboy01: I don't know about the great MURPHY but I do know about Murphy's Law (also known as Sod's Law), which states:

Whatever can go wrong will go wrong.

Plain, simple and always true. :D

UK Bob

arne_bab: That's the one I mean :)

mslilly: Oh wow, Ultracross!! WAY COOL! I love Jars of Clay!! How bout Third Day????

Sorry, I'm am off the subject here, but I get emails when you guys post to my original message.

Thanks Dagam3 ... haha, the statement "whatever can go wrong will go wrong" SO TRUE. But I don't let that bother me any! Well, I try not to!!

And well, I didn't know about the "known scam sites" ... the icon on my desk top is actually getanysong from 360shares? And well, it's worked for me, and they were nothing but pleasant. Maybe it was my Norton that caused the error messages? But it only did it on software, the music downloaded fine...it was just a lot of junk that showed up ... porn.... and such, I HATE PORN!

Oh and arne_bab, I really really do not want to get off the subject here either ... however, I do have to say this ... and I do NOT WANT TO EVEN GO INTO PREACHING HERE ON THIS BOARD ...hahaha, but it's here on my heart, and I'll hand it to you to think about, SCRIPTURE says: Romans 14:11 - for it is written, "As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall give praise to God." God gives everyone a will - choice ... God says you may believe what you will ... however, AS FOR ME AND MY HOUSE ... (LOL so the song says) I believe in God, Heaven and Hell, and my soul is definitely not going to HELL. Give God a chance. You might like it! He'll truly let you know who he is ... my life has been truly blessed for sure! Want to read more - I have some fantastic LINKS!

Sorry everyone. Really I am. LOL ... I really have enjoyed reading all the post ... everyone has been very helpful and kind to me!! LOL

arne_bab: About that God of yours: Sorry to disappoint you. I know how it feels, when an angel appears, and I know how it feels when people pray to god, and when they enfold themselves in their faith.

But it isn't mine, and if it is yours, then be glad about it and use that faith to keep yourself glad, it can be a source of power.

But please realize, that there are some, who decide not to go that one-sided path, and who do know their dark side, too, and know, that it is an important part of them.

And besides: There is an old woman with a third eye on her forhead who knows the potions of nature and the nature of humankind, and she would simply call you a hypocrite, if only because you say you won't go preaching and then do it nonetheless.

That old lady is a character of the farscape series, if you didn't recognize her ;)

(Heck, I like this discussion :) )

Besides again: Hate is the emotion which destroys your peace. You should be a tad more careful with its use, if you call yourself a christian (except if you want to start the crusades and the witch-burning again, which already put a stain on christianity for a very long time, you'd have to face my wrath, though, if you'd begin the second one, since some very good friends of mine are witches).

And to go back to the other side (far too much talk only of that God):

Morrigan ancient Crown of War, I see your Face I cry no more,
Morrigan ancient Crown of War, Come take me on your Wings
Morrigan ancient Crown of War, I see your Face I breath no more,
Morrigan ancient Crown of War, Come set my spirit Free!

Dagam3: So now it's working fine...(may I understand...) I'm new arround here and every time I read this threads, I read them only to find out solutions to the problems that may appear...

arne_bab: @Dagam3: I'll start a thread for this offtopoc in the lounge. Sorry to have taken your time with it.

Which has happened :)

You really like this discussion?

Really, honestly?? I like your enthusiasm...or are you just bored? Haha. I'm not, I have tons to do. :) However, when it comes to God and Jesus, I have plenty of time.

Well, I'm not really disappointed, in fact, I run into this a lot of times, and so did Jesus 2000 years ago. It's ok. You have your choice! See, that's why God sent Jesus, was so that you could have a choice, either believe it or not..... ? But really, if you think about it, you have more to lose than me... I'll have eternity in Heaven, whereas, people who don't believe in Christ, the Bible says they will spend eternity in Hell. Revelation 20:15 - and if any one's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

And really, I choose the LIGHT! John 3:19 - And this is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
John 3:20 - For every one who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.

If you are referring to the word I used HATE? hating porn? Yep, I do. Hate is an emotion, and Porn is a sin. God hates sin .... because of what it produces, but God loves the sinner. Careful what I say? Christians hate evil!! :)

Yea, I've been called a hypocrite to. Cause I'm merely not perfect. Yes, can you believe it? I have an occasional drink, and ahhh, I have said curse words at times, ahhhh, that makes me a hypocrite? I don't know if you know this or not, but there was only one perfect one, JESUS CHRIST.

Well, I'm very comfortable with only one Master, ... Matthew 6:24 - "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

Jesus Freak? Haha, well, maybe. I'm an ole country girl, married with children, expecting my first grandchild, if you can believe that. And I have a 6 year old. And today was our 20th wedding anniversary!! :) :)

Really, there aren't to many people who will hear the Word of God, but again, that's ok. It's fine with me. That's why we are both allowed a choice. If you really want to know if the Bible is true, go here, it's a great website. The guy who created it was a skeptic ... http://www.amazingbible.com/Document...bible_true.htm

Hey btw, it's really nice to meet you!! ;) I'm sorry to have posted that where I did to, didn't know if this board... :) thanks!

And NOOOO, that program is still not working. I tried it again, and it did the same download ... but it did fine the songs I put in ... I didn't really see a debit where they even charged me for the program yet ... (today), so I'm going to call my bank and see if I can do a stop payment ...? Not sure yet about that ...

I doubt, that i have more to lose than you.

You are one who "serves another master" for several hundreds or thousands of smaller and larger religions.

For most of those, I am rather independent.

OK, there is no paradise for me, but also no hell.
for you there is hell and paradise (except if you believe, that you'll go to heaven whatever you do), so you create a fear inside yourself, a fear you have to counter with belief that servitude to your master will get you to heaven.

What if there was neither hell nor heaven?

If your belief is right, then I'll be judged by my actions, which follow my morale.
I don't have much problem with that, for I act as I feel right, and I assume I spent more time thinking about the right way to act than most christians.

If your god should then decide to judge me down, because I didn't belief in him/her/it, then I can go to your hell without problems.
And since the hell you believe in isn't even hell on earth, but a cleansing fire, I myself don't even have to fear that.

But what if I am right? What if you find upon your death, that there is no paradise?

If I find, that I won't be reborn, then I know, that I lived right by my own choice, and that I am happy with how my life went, because I didn't fix my meaning of life too fix on some immaterial being.

My life holds some very simple meanings:

- Humans are meant to get children, our dna wants that, if it didn't, we wouldn't be (for our grand-grand-grand-...-parents would have gotten children).

- Humans are meant to preserve this planet, for that is, what will make our children survive. If I can't get a hell of a lot children then, because that would increase overpopulation, so be it. This is extending the will of my dna.

- I want to live a joyful life, and it shall be joyful still, when I'm 20 years older.

- I want to be able to look back in 20 years and say: I did mostly right. I'm content with my actions.

- I want that all people can enjoy their life the same way, if they choose so.

- I don't want to do to others, which I don't want done to me. (Simple mirror neurons firing in my brain: I can imagine the pain of others, and since I don't want to suffer pain, I don't want others to, but if it is "me or _one_ other human" my decision would most likely be "me", depending on situation and person, though)

- Since I think that, if everyone (or at least more people) followed my values, life would be better for everyone, I want to teach others my values.

Besides: What helps my children, helps me in some way, even though I don't have children yet.

From this you can deduct a wonderful meaning for life, and you won't need a god for that.

(there are many more things in life, most people don't see, but none of it was enough for me, to join some definite faith. I'm neither pagan, nor christian, nor even a full atheist, but I live as I feel and think is right, and love is one of the most intense feelings, love to a person as well as love to all existence, so I want to experience and spread that feeling (as far as it does no harm, or at least less harm than (long-lasting) pleasure). And it isn't easy to stay apart from safe "truths", and sometimes I succumb to them, but I'm always glad if others get me to realize, I had run into something again :) ).

That following a gods/faith'/religions principle moves you in a similar direction as following ethical and societally efficient values is more than just coincidence, because if it wasn't such, (majorly) christian society wouldn't have been able to prevail.

Those christian values are bound to be somewhat efficient for a society, but they need not be the best for todays society. And that is also true for the belief in god.

If believing in god isn't good for society as a whole, then I doubt even god would want of humans to belief in him/her/it, else it wouldn't be a benevolent god anymore.

Besides: Do you believe in the devil?
