I dont want people to see my files

I clicked on "Show Incoming Searches". Few minutes later, keyword searches started to show up. Does that mean people can see what files I have in my PC? I already did the proper settings to make it impossible for people to download from me. But I also want to make sure people cannot see any files in my PC. How can I do this?

Malek. If you are sharing certain of your files, then an incoming search will show up those files to others on the network. It will not show up any of your other files.
If you are not prepared to share any of your files then none of them will show up in anyone elses searches. The incoming searches you see are seen by others on the network .. not just you.

From your post, I am dissapointed that you are not prepared to share your files, and peole who do not share files are, quite honestly, dead wood for the gnutella network to carry. The object of the network is to share files, and those who do not share have no business freeloading off others ... they have no business using p2p atall.

Why would it be so terrible to let others see what files you're sharing? The only reason, that I can see, why you don't want others to see your files is, is because it's nothing but porn.

And you may want to be careful saying that you don't want other people downloading from you... freeloaders are not liked in this forum.

Cs This guy said " I already did the proper settings to make it impossible for people to download from me"

I'm afraid he's not even going to share his porn .. Certainly a self confessed freeloader
:(

I have 3 PCs. Sharing is ON with my other two PCs. But I want to know how I can make it impossible for people to see any files in just one of my PC.

Are those my files? I made sure there would be no sharing with this PC but I still see "searches" when I put a checkmark on "Show Incoming Searches".

Malek. I once before wrongly accused someone of being a freeloader, and so I re read your post a few times before making the same mistake again ... Apologies!

In my earlier post, when I said Network, I was referring to the Gnutella Networtk, not your local network.

If you have a computer running Limewire with all uploading capabilities switched off and with no files being shared, this will not prevent incoming searches from the gnutella network coming into your computer. They are searches being sent across the gnutella network and in the case of this computer, no search will be successful. If you see a search corresponding to a file on your computer, then that is a pure coincidence. The fact that you have sharing switched off means that search will not find anything in YOUR computer.

If you don't believe me, go to options or preferences>Sharing>Shared extensions>and clear the window of all extensions. Then you know you are safe.

Just remember that the bigger risk will probably be from a virus infected download, so ensure you are fully up to date with your virus protection.

I hope this clarifies things and puts your mind at rest:)

i think you can set it so that people cant brows your shared folder but can still download from you if one of your files makes it into there search...

Only A Hobo October 10th, 2005 03:39 PM

I know that happens often, but I'm not sure, with LIMEWIRE you can set it that way on purpose. With some applications, you can.
