cannot play dvd or videos ??????

Hi there im new to this so be kind since upgrading to limewire pro when i download dvd or video and try to preview them on windows media player a message pops up and says i need more codecs ????? i have tried everything i no which isnt a lot this never happened before i upgraded HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!
