| Well, the P2P network consists of PCs and servers littered in countries throughout the world, not just in the US, Canada, Europe and Australia. And in some of those countries they either have very weak or non-existent copyright laws.
So, if you live in one of these “weak copyright” countries you can have as many songs/mp3s on your PC and/or server for other P2P users to download from, and no one can touch you. But if the BPI (British Phonographic Industry) notice that you, a UK resident, are downloading vast amounts of MP3s then they can pursue and possibly sue you.
