![]() i know the legal aspect of file sharing music has been discussed on this forum. music is only illegal to download if its copyrighted. but what i was wondering was how is copyrighted music available to download in the first place. obiviously the people who are uploading the music arent getting caught because if they were they would be made to delete the files as well as recieving a fine. i know due to nature of the internet its hard to trace people as files arent stored in one central location. but people have been caught downloading copyrighted music and have faced fines of around £2,500. why arent the uploaders being caught? any explanations. thanks. |

![]() Simply put. If you know what you are doing you can upload in such a way as to be untraceable. You can download in a similar way but it mainly depends whether or not your ISP provides static or dynamic IP addresses. Most of the time to people who prosecute are only after the big fish and the ones who make money out of it. Still, I have a feeling the days of easy downloading are soon going to become a thing of the past (especially for free). Coments please!!!! |

![]() Lime05 You asked: Quote:
So, if you live in one of these “weak copyright” countries you can have as many songs/mp3s on your PC and/or server for other P2P users to download from, and no one can touch you. But if the BPI (British Phonographic Industry) notice that you, a UK resident, are downloading vast amounts of MP3s then they can pursue and possibly sue you. Angelfish mentioned that they, I presume the BPI, are only going after “the big fish” well the following link shows otherwise: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/g...re/4166784.stm UK Bob |

![]() A very interesting article. It didn't state how much she was sharing though. Lets be honest about the whole thing. The very concept of P2P networking and the like is aimed at this isn't it. Rather like blank tapes, and recordable CD's / DVD's. There are ligitimate usages but everyone knows why they really exist. |

![]() considering that both stief (in the LW section post) and ukbobby01 (here) have made excellent posts, I've decided to just leave the threads where they are...admittedly I would usually jump at the chance of dealing with an idiot like this, but in this case, I'm letting it slide
