video I downloaded some mpeg video/audio streams and burned them on a dvd disk but my windows media player and quiktime player both say they cannot play them because they are not recognized or have a bad file name. How can Iview these? |
its a good idea to the play files from your hard disk first before you burn them to cd/dvd to see if they work. some video/audio files are corrupted especially on p2p networks as the sources arent always reliable. wmp plays mpeg files and nearly all audio streams so it sounds like this is the case. |
Get VLC - (click on link) _ (choose nearest mirror site) as it's a very reliable player & has in-built codecs which WMP doesn't have. To see it's abilities see http://www.videolan.org/vlc/features.html Does your dvd-video disk play on your set-top dvd player? Did you burn them to dvd or cd? Did you burn a video-disk or a data disk with just the original files. Are the file-names especially long or abbreviated. Do they have extensions or not? |
video Lord of Rings I burned the streams with Nero as data on a DVD disk because that is where I could find them. I burned 11 different streams and none of them will play. I tried VLC and it acts like it is running something but I get no video and no sound. Maybe I burned them wrong but when I first burned them and loaded the disk while still running LimeWire it ran fine but the next day when I put the disk in without logging on to LimeWire, it would not run. It would not run after I logged on to LimeWire after that either...HELP |
Are the original files still on your computer or did you delete them? Did you empty the recycle bin? Try copying them back onto your computer & try playing them from there. |
video Yes I deleted them. I just have them on the dvd disk. I want to know how to do it right next time if I can't recover these streams. |
video Sorry to bother you again but I just found out that some streams on disk will play but others will not. I had them on two seperate disks and assumed that if the first one didn't play, that the other would not. I'm not sure why one disk burned readable and the other one didn't, but it must be the files since even on the disk that does work, there are certain streams that still won't play right. Your VLC advise was right on though. Thank's |
