(oh yeh im on speedtouch 1.1mbps)

Whats the brand name of your router/firewall? They usually have a nat firewall that you'll need to configure.

djch June 3rd, 2006 01:59 PM

which 1

Lord of the Rings June 3rd, 2006 02:07 PM

Both. The brand & model of connection devices. If you're using a 2nd software firewall, disable your XP firewall. Otherwise it will cause problems & conflict & result in less, not more security. And configure your Pc - cillin trend micro to allow LW full access; Firewall configuration instructions (click on link)

jflash June 3rd, 2006 04:07 PM

my limewire suddenly wont connect either, just the last few days. I have full access in my firewall, and it has never had a problem working before...any ideas?

Lord of the Rings June 3rd, 2006 04:27 PM

If it's not the ISP causing problems, then try deleting your LW Preferences folder whilst LW is closed; instructions here: Point #2 & 3 in Fixes for Limewire (sample image included at bottom of page.)

If still problems after that, then look at Connection problems? Check here first! (click on link)

If still problems after that, then give us a detailed response as to your connection devices & set up.

birdy June 3rd, 2006 05:17 PM

Have a look through this thread
Connection problems? Check here first!

Just double check your firewall settings & make sure they're still as they should be. Do the port test & see what result you get. Did anything change (like new hardware, change of ISP, someone fixing your computer) before you stopped connecting?

What are your details?

OS(Win XP etc)
LW & Java version (help > about LW & you'll see)
Firewall you're using
Modem/router brand & model
ISP
Connection type (DSL etc)
Where you connect from (home, school etc)
Are you sharing a connection with other computers
Is this your first try with LW

*Must be tough living in Pigsnot!!!

jflash June 4th, 2006 02:10 PM

birdy,
LOL* on the pigsnot, not the real name of course, but in Iowa it might as well be :) Hog confinements everywhere!
ok, no one has worked on my pc, I did check the connection thread, but nothing appeared relevant. I have a McAfee Red Zone Suite and the firewall that goes with that. My OS is XP and I have been using all of the above with Limewire very successfully for the past 3-4 months.
I use a local server, am on a wireless connection, and my router is a Netgear. I am connected at home and do share a connection or puter with anyone.
?????? I am gonna try this preference deletion thing, that Lord of the Rings suggested, but I'll tell ya I hate to delete anything...it usually spells disaster for me LOL*

jflash June 4th, 2006 02:11 PM

p.s
I meant to say DON'T share a computer or connection with anyone.

jflash June 4th, 2006 04:10 PM

ok, I did the delete the preferences thing, I looked at the connections link, nothing seemed to apply. so I completely uninstalled the program, losing all my libraries, and reinstalled....well it still WILL NOT connect. :(
hmmmmmmmmmmmmph.

birdy June 4th, 2006 04:13 PM

You can't stuff anything up by deleting the preferences:D
What model's your Netgear? How do you have it set up (is UPnP enabled, are you port forwarding)? If you're port forwarding, maybe set it up again (see Grandpa's post here for why)
http://www.gnutellaforums.com/showth...068#post208068

Do you see the firewall icon (brick wall in front of blue earth)?

Did the port test work?
http://www3.limewire.com:6346

Have you tried using any other p2p apps?

What's the name of your ISP? Even if they're a small local company, might be some info around about them.

birdy June 4th, 2006 04:21 PM

Aaaaggghhh why is this problem in two threads?...
*starts banging her head on the wall*
...

jflash June 4th, 2006 04:21 PM

whooooooooooa birdy...I am a techno weenie and have no idea what language you speak . LOL* my netgear router well it says it is a 108 mbps wireless firewall router WGT624 v2, as for configurations, I dunno, I just plugged it in and it worked. I have been using for several months now, and did with success with Limewire well until the last 3 days.
and yes I see the firewall icon, it is a brick wall in front of blue earth. only one bar on the connection grid is lit green the others stay red.
what is a port test? how do I do it?

Lord of the Rings June 4th, 2006 04:25 PM

Can you give us a total description of your set up:
1. OS version? (eg: Windows 98)
2. What firewalls you have?
3. How much ram?
4. Hard Disk space available?
5. Connection type? (eg: dialup, broadband, cable, etc.)
6. Modem & router brand name & model numbers?
7. Where are you trying to connect from (home, school, work, etc.)?
8. What version of Limewire (LW) & Java do you have? (Go to LW's menu Help>About LW...) Will show both LW & Java version.
9. Who is your isp provider (Internet Service Provider)?
10. Are you sharing the connection with other computers or p2p sharing programs? If yes, please give details of set up.
11. Is this a your 1st try at LW or is this a new problem with an experienced user.
12. Do this simple test for us. Using your browser go here: http://www3.limewire.com:6346/ The page should say 'Your test worked!'. What happens when you go there?
13. Try downlding a magnet link & explain what happens re: connection & speed; http://www.magnetmix.com/video.shtml
14. Go ro LW's menu bar, Tools>Options>Advanced>Firewalls & check the options such as both connection & listening port. What are they?

birdy June 4th, 2006 04:36 PM

To do the port test either click on my link (under where I asked about the test) or click on the same link in LOTR's post, point 12.

jflash June 4th, 2006 04:42 PM

ok..my OS is Windows XP (came with my laptop), I have McAfee Red Zone Suite and the firewall that comes with that, my laptop is a Dell INspiron 600m, it has Celeron M processor (1.4G) a 40GB hardrive, my internet connection is a local server, Northwest Telecommunications, my connection is a wireless connection, my modem (provided by them) is product #EUM3005,
version GAA3, my pc uses an internal ethernet card. my router is Netgear, WGT624, I connect from home only. I have been using Limewire 4.10.9, have been using for a few months now, no problems until the last few days, I use it about once a week. your link in #12 takes me to a blank page, the link in #13 takes me to magnetmix.com.

jflash June 4th, 2006 04:47 PM

ok I clicked on a link on magnet.com and it qued my LW but it says waiting for stable connections

jflash June 4th, 2006 04:49 PM

Limewire listening port 45301
router config Use Upnp is selected.

Lord of the Rings June 4th, 2006 04:56 PM

Do manual port forwarding but choose a port between 49152 - 65535 such as port 64049 for connection rather than 6346 as suggested here http://www.portforward.com/english/r...624v3index.htm

Yes Netgear will understand UPnP but if the ports it tries to connect thru are blocked ... then ...

jflash June 4th, 2006 06:09 PM

ok I did all that, and still it wont connect. this time I got a box that said my computer did not have a internet connection or else there is a firewall blocking it..so I went and checked my mcafee firewall and it still says limewire has full access, and my windows xp firewall still says disabled.
:( it is hopeless...

invalent...lol June 6th, 2006 01:58 PM

im really sorry for asking you this question considering the stickys that have been posted. but i am completely clueless about how to take dl music with my firewall activated. in the bottom corner of limewire there is a globe with a brick wall and i cant seem to get rid of it. i did go to my firewall options and list limewire as an exception but it still isnt allowing me to dl music. there is also another thing that i think might be a problem...i have a laptop and am using someone elses connection. could that be why its not working?? i am so sorry for posting this but i just cant seem to figure it out. i went thru both stickys about maximizing dl'ing but nothing has changed. please please help me..i am so frustrated. its been over a week now :( thanks so much

birdy June 6th, 2006 04:58 PM

Are you connected well (how many green connection bars)? If you're not connected, do this test (click on link)
http://www3.limewire.com:6346

If you're seeing the firewall icon, it's either a problem with a software firewall or an internal firewall within a modem or router. There's a lot of firewall information here
Connection problems? Check here first!
Make sure you're only using 1 software firewall & that it's configured for LW. Read through the info about modems/routers, there's info about UPnP & port forwarding.

What are your details?

OS(Win XP etc)
LW & Java version (help > about LW & you'll see)
Firewall you're using
Modem/router brand & model
ISP
Connection type (DSL etc)
Where you connect from (home, school etc)
Are you sharing a connection with other computers
Is this your first try with LW
