An wma converter

Does anyone know a good easy to use, Virus free wma converter. To convert wma's to mp3's?

Sleepless September 26th, 2006 05:10 PM

As long as you promise not to share any of that low standard crap I can sniff one out for ya

Haven't used it myself so no guarantees

garbagefan2 September 26th, 2006 05:14 PM

What do you mean by lowstandard crap?

Sleepless September 26th, 2006 05:17 PM

When something is first ripped to wma, and then converted to mp3, quality fades.

Why don't you just download mp3's instead ??

garbagefan2 September 26th, 2006 05:19 PM

I have some very good material. But when I try to change the ripping method in windows media player to copy mp3's instead it won't let me. Can nero startsmart do this? Or any other nero programs? I have the whole suite installed.

I'll send you a PM instead

If wma is converted to mp3 or mp3 converted to wma, then it should never be shared on the gnutella network!!!!! Such a loss of quality. I've heard obvious re-encodings & it sounds terrible. I'd hate to think of gnutella becoming known as the 3rd class location to find audio files. With files being commonly reconverted to different formats or bit rates, all of which result in loss of quality. Unless lossless formats are used; aiff, wav, apple lossless, flac, monkey (ape), etc. But with a id3 tag saying "converted from ... " included with the description of the file if that's the case. ;) :)

I'm gonna find something the rip cd songs into mp3s automaticlly instead of a program ripping wma's. I don't like wma.

garbagefan2 September 26th, 2006 06:37 PM

Does iTunes rip mp3's automatically from cds?

Sleepless September 26th, 2006 06:45 PM

You can try one of these, but I still asure you that quality won't be as good

Yes iTunes can rip to mp3 directly if you choose. The better method is to rip to wav on your hdd, then rip to mp3. You can do that within iTunes but it means mucking around with later deleting your wav files. Not so difficult if well practiced. Just temporarily arrange files by format in iTunes so all the wavs are in the one group. Can be done very quickly! ;)

I'm installing iTunes 7. Because I really like the cd I baught today so I wanted to rip it to my computer to listen to it anytime.

Exact Audio Copy (EAC) is the dog's bollocks when it comes to ripping.

Good advice on it's configuration and use can be found here:-

But to get back on topic, dBpowerAMP is very good at audio file format conversion:-

A free version can still be found at- http://www.pricelesswarehome.org/200...IA.php#0898-PW

Extra codecs (over and above those included by default) can be obtained from Codec Central- http://www.dbpoweramp.com/codec-central.htm

But, as stated above, wma to mp3 is a bad idea.

Sleepless November 1st, 2006 06:31 PM

Well Garbagegan2 wants to stick with iTunes it seems.

Use EAC and LAME myself, so I totally agree with you dogbreath

And just to really make it sink in for anyone reading through this thread

Never ever share anything that has been converted from a lossy codec to another lossy codec

Lossless to mp3 or wma or whatever is the only way.

And BTW make it 320 kbps

And changing the id3-tag to 320 does not make it 320

Any audio editing and converting software will be of use. Suggests to try FlexiMusic Wave Editor. Directly can't read WMA file in FlexiMusic Wave Editor, so play and record the Wma file in the software and then using the "Save As" command, convert and save the Wma file as Mp3 format. To save the file as Mp3, need to install a separate command line Mp3 encoder/ decoder. Lame win 32 will be of use.
