You need one software firewall. I'd normally recommend choosing one or the other (XP or ZA)

We're getting off-topic here. :D

Agreed ,problem is windows keeps turning itself off,Zalrm messes up my file sharing, so what now? which is easier? both are causing problems, wonder why windows is enabled sometimes and not others?
Thanks again, really do appreciate input, newbee

I don't use XP so I can't speak from experience with its firewall. Surely if you configure ZA's FW properly it should be fine.

Thanks LOTR, will wrestle with Zalrm, it is a problem with ZA to set up networks and file sharing,or perhaps ZA conflicts with router more than XP,if XP didnt turn itself off i'd stick with it, thankyou for help, much appreciated. as the guru said'' If nothing changes, all will stay the same''

Just a Quickie LOTR, on the VLC 'Preview' thing, tried the ''Launch'' from Incomplete window and it didn't work, when video completed, VLC played it ok,
When I tried from incomplete on disc, you get an error message and the option to ' mend avi file' when 'launch' from incomplete window on LW nothing happened at all? and as you said no preview file raised,I'd hoped 'Launch' would work but fraid not. It's a pain not having preview option, should I go back to Divx? or is there anything else i could try ?
Thanks for past advice,

Hooray

Well Well, just goes to show, going from incomplete folder on disc, clicking on file, vlc player offers option to ''Repair Avi File'' (This might take a long time) if I click '' NO'' I get to 'Preview' the file !!!!! If I click 'Preview' from Limewire, nothing happens, so have to go to ''Incomplete Folder'' anyway. So at long last I get to preview files. Thanks for help good people:DHope this helps others who can't Preview files with Vlc !!

Lord of the Rings October 29th, 2006 06:25 PM

Do you mean the "ignore errors" option? I always click to ignore errors. :)

Vlc player

No, If I right click on file that is Dloading in window, if its a file WMP wont play, a preview file is created, but nothing happens,Vlc doesn't come up , so I go to 'incomplete folder' and either double click, or right click and 'open with' on the file, vlc comes up but a window called '' Avi Index'' comes up in front, it says '' This Avi file is broken, seeking will not work correctly,do you want to try and repair it?(This may take a long time), and under that are three options, either click ''Yes'' or '' No'' or ''Cancel'' if you click ''Cancel'' an ''Errors'' box appears with options to clear or save. but if you click ''No;; your preview starts,HOORAY !! if you click ''Yes'' your file is ''Mended'' i presume all bits joined together@@ dont really know what the repair option does???? At least its solved the NO Preview problem. Does this help at all , I am running XP. I don't seem to get an ''ignore errors'' option anywhere, apart from ''Errors'' if you click cancel.

You know Newbee2

You seem to have picked the "hard way" to get where you want to go, e.g. why double click an incomplete file while it is downloading, I always thought that this could cause the file to become corrupted.

Anyway, if you want to preview an incomplete file do not double click it or use WMP 10 or 11 (waste of space), I suggest you only use VLC, which as others in this forum will tell you, is very good and hardly ever comes across film clips that it can't play.

All you have to do with VLC is click File > Quick Open then browse to the file you want to play or preview then click OK. It is as simple as that.

PS. If I was at home I would have attached a VLC screen print.

Double clicking a file while downloading will not cause a file to become corrupt. In windows though VLC will normally not play a file by double-clicking it in Limewire.

Some players will play the file when double-clicking, but this is not the best option. If the file is downloading while you try to play it the player will most likely not be able to render the file. Pausing and then double clicking often works and no duplicate preview file will be created when doing it like that.

On the other hand fixing the file using VLC may very well cause corruption. Choosing the fix option will allow VLC to process the file as it wants, rewriting headers etc. In most cases limewire will not recognise the file after doing this.

If you can't preview a file and want to fix it:

Go to the incomplete folder, right-click the file, choose copy. Then paste wherever you like (outside of the incomplete folder of course), and fix that one instead. Then after viewing just delete the copy.

It is pretty uncommon that VLC won't be able to play an incomplete file without fixing it, but it does happen.
