Ares Ultra Help

Hello Forum.

Let me say is a pleasure joining this forum and I extend my Hand to each one here.

With that in mind let me say I need Help with Ares Ultra. I had it working fine on my computer, then suddenly it has stopped working. It starts up and it keeps saying connecting but never does. I tried uninstalling several times, downloaded different versions and nothing. What gives? I searched and read that maybe Windows service pack 2 may be the reason for this. I am currently running windows XP service pack 2.

I have tried Limewire, Morpheus and Bittorrent and even kaaza lite resurection, but none seem to match Ares ultra.
Morpheus is especially annoying since most files are copyright and keep opening a browser window each time you click on one.

I would appreciate any help, thoughts or idea on this matter. Thanks to all.:super:

Ares Ultra..
I used to have Ares (no not ultra but it was, i think the version before..) and it used to launch on start up (well not exactly launch, but sit neatly on my task bar) but it always would connect on start up.
I unfortunately no longer use ares (Im thinking of using it again soon though) but I recommend that you have a look around in teh setting in ares to see if you are actually connecting on start up (or as soon as you launch the program) because this is often the case.

Also, you haven't installed any new fire wall software lately have you?
If you have I suggest you see if Ares is granted access to the internet. Most firewall software informs you if an application wants access to the internet (which you can give the application access with a click or two) but if you haven't been informed I suggest you take a look around in your fire wall's settings.

XP SP2 shouldn't be a problem at all though. Most of the time when Ive downloaded software, its been recommended that you have SP2 (For W.i.n/d/o/_w_s XP users). I run SP2 aswell and I ahve never had any software issues because of this.

I have another suggestion. Go to the site where you downloaded it from and see if the site has any Q&A's or FAQ's that might help. As a matter of fact, Im on a site right now and it does say thats Ultra has connectivity problems but I can not find anything on how to fix them.

One last thing, if you cant fix the problem give Ares Galaxy a try. Its almost the same, in fact, its exactly the same from what I can see.

Let me know if you fix the problem

Thanks for your Reply

I had read somewhere else where the SP2 updates does cause problems with Ares ultra thus the reason for my questions. In either case I do have a Firewall and Zone Alarm. Both are configured to allow ares to connect freely. I have no problem with limewire or any other p2p program.

I remember Zone alarm was doing a scan and it found Ares to be have Spyware or virus. I think it quarantined the file, then my problems began. I reinstalled and gave zone alarm permission and nothing. Let me try to download ares galaxy as you suggested. Thanks for your reply!!!:super:

No problem :)
Just a quick heads up on Ares Galaxy 2.08, some people's anti virus will detect ares.exe as a trojan. Ares Galaxy is not a trojan and theres nothing wwrong with it.. This happens because ares is like web browsers (along with a few other programs), act like trojans but they aren't. The .exe is what sets off AV programs.
So don't worry if you get any alerts. If you want to stay on the safe side download 2.6 or 1.x.x (cant remember the numerals)

SourceForge.net have a forum so if you have any issues with your AV & ares.exe here are some links I've gathered for you. Trojans
and theres Ares Forum

hi, i am a brand new (potential) user of Ares Ultra, but having never used on of these sites before i am a little confused.
i have downloaded the software successfully, but when i attempt to download a file i am prompted to register and pay. I know i sound a little naive but is this correct?? i though these were "FREE" download sites??

In a nutshell, I suggest you dont use Ares Ultra.
If a program is asking you to register and pay when you know you shouldnt have to, do not do it.
If it was a free download site you should not have been asked to register and pay.

If you are going to use any form of ares, I suggest ares galaxy.

first off ares ultra is not a real version of ares. secondly you should never register to or pay anything to download something, never ever pay or pass out personal info.

i am the owner of AresForum if you would like to click the link funeral provided in post #5 for further help please feel free to. thank's by the way funeral.
if you would like to get ares running don't be afraid to come on over and ask for help. now to help you here.

if you have sp2 installed and you are using a 64 bit proccessor you should download the sp2 patch we have in our download's section. if you are running thru a router, or a dsl user i would try port forwarding ares transfer port.
as for playa's post,
you will need to totaly remove ares thru the add/remove also you will need to delete ares reg key's. start/run/regedit from there go to hkey_current user
then onto software find ares and delete the ares folder and sub folder's
from there check c drive make sure there is no ares folder left behind and then reboot computer. then download a real copy from SourceForge.net: Files
that is the entire list of every version there was ever made. i personally would recomend stying within the 190 version say 193 up to 199.
those seem to be the better of all the previous and later version's, 194 and up support torrent's. once you install the fresh copy then you should recieve another popup about letting it access the net from zone, go ahead and allow it. that should solve your issue's playa.
other's as i said feel free stop on over at AresForum, link's in post #5 for indepth personal help with ares, we also answer computer problem's, we are not just an ares forum but a total computer support forum.

thank's again for the linkage funeral, i will add this site to my link's list.

thank you,
AresForum
