Laptop CD

I have a HP Pavilion dv8000 laptop with a gig of memory and with a LightScribe CD drive. How can I go about finding out if the drive in question is CD-g write capable?

I do have a FREEWARE version of a .KAR program/editor called KaraFun and I can play my CD-g disc's just fine on the disc drive if that means anything. I also have NERO 7 Ultra Edition Enhanced but have yet to install it on my laptop. I believe this will be helpful in my burning CD-g disc's. Would that be a correct assumption on my part.

I also will be rebuilding/upgrading my desktop in a few days. Do you have any recommendations for a disc drive for it? I bought one from Fry's but none of the drives they sell off the shelf said they could actually write the CD-g file format but several of them said they could read/play them. Any help appreciated.

You must have a CD-G burner otherwise it will not work. Hold off on rebuilding your computer, though. I will like online for a CD-G burner that also has LightScribe.

Thanks, will do. Are you referring to the desk top?

techgeek November 15th, 2007 02:19 PM

Yeah

Don't mean to butt in here, but you can take a look here.
This seems like it will do everything you might need. I Just did a simple search for this, so I can't speak on the program it self, just trying to help. :D

Karaoke software to burn, create, play, convert and copy CD+G discs and video karaoke songs

Thanks, I saw that last week as well when I was doing a Google for Karaoke rip/burn software. It looks promising but I'm still looking and reviewing.

How about: Plextor PX-716UF External DVD±RW Dual Layer Writer (as described here)

From all I could find out it seems to fit what I need. If so I have an opportunity to get a real deal on one if I act fairly quick.

Remoc November 18th, 2007 02:44 PM

Am I missing something here Nojunkie?? You want to spend 300.00 On a DVD/CD Burner when you can Buy Software, for a Third of the Price, 99.00.
None of my business how you spend your money, but.....????

I have an opportunity to get it for around $75 (slightly used but like new in the original box and with all that came with it originally, all software + cable's). Maybe that isn't such a good deal after all, huh?! Let me know please, the window of opportunity will be gone after today.

Not to be rude or anything, but this is a problem that I can handle. Please only post here if you have a problem. Otherwise, please let me handle it. Now, onto the drive. It looks to be fine. They are out of stock, but they will probably make more.

Remoc November 18th, 2007 03:05 PM

Hey I DON'T want to be the Deciding Factor Here. I just assumed you already had a DVD Burner, and all you needed is to Add the Software.
Sorry I put in my 2 cents. I was just trying to help. I guess I Hijacked your Thread and Maybe the TechGeek knows Better. Sorry

techgeek November 18th, 2007 03:08 PM

That's OK. I wasn't trying to be rude. Sorry if I hurt your feelings. I am just trying to handle it and sometimes I get annoyed if someone butts in. Sorry if I hurt you.

Remoc November 18th, 2007 03:11 PM

It appears to be barely a year old and is Vista compatible although I'll for now be using it with XP-Pro 64bit. I was thinking that it not being that old and hardly used that it should work. So, thanks for your assistance techgeek, I think I'm going to go for it then. I appreciate your help.

techgeek November 18th, 2007 03:17 PM

You are quite welcome. Anything else I can help you with?

No, you've helped me already and should I run into something I can't solve again one way or another I'll probably be back and ask someone who knows the answer to what I don't know. :PEACE:

techgeek November 18th, 2007 03:34 PM

And the person you would ask would be ME, right?

Techgeek, you did not have to report this post to the moderators...
Remoc has done nothing wrong, this is a public forum and nobody owns a thread...
Remoc has dedicated alot of time here, hence him being a valued member...So try not to get to upset when someone has some thoughts on the subject as well and is willing to participate...
Many hands make light work...;)
