location traced hey guys, sorry tat tis isnt related to limewire, but i need to ask sumthing important... can my location be found out if i have a dynamic IP address? lets say i visited facebook and posted there .. can my location be found out by a large company who ask facebook my IP address and stuff a few days after i posted? if so, how can i overcome this problem? |
Depends on what you posted. If you posted something that Facebook deems illegal, then I'm sure they have no problem handing over your IP. Then it's up to whether your ISP thinks it's bad as well. |
oh ok.. is there n e way to overcome this? how about if i change my modem? |
Every location you go to on the internet leaves 'footprints' of your ip address. Your ISP will have some kind of record also of which ip addresses you have been assigned over a period even if using a dynamic ip address. Proxies may assist a little, but still not fool proof. :) |
so what can i do now? |
the milliondollar question.. can somebody identify YOU (personally, as in name , age and stuff) through ur IP address (identify ur house)? please reply soon! |
furthermore... how can u change ur internet hostname so that people can't trace ur IP to u? is this possible? and will this affect my computer? what if i just buy a different internet service provider, say a new pack, will it change my host name? ur replies r eagerly awaited! thnx |
Yes, your ISP can identify you and even if you change your ISP, your old ISP will still have you on record. When you post somewhere, be it here or on Facebook, your post will be timestamped. So your ISP will have the info that e.g. IP: 123.123.123.123 was being used by subscription 123456, which is being paid for by name, address etc. |
is it possible to change the subscription part? and can they directly link it to ME if a family member is paying for the subscription and not me? |
No and no, but they can indirectly (and later directly) link it to you. If you really think I'm gonna help you post illegal things on the net, then you are sadly mistaken. |
Search Proxies on the forum if you want 'some' masking. |
what are you, some fvcking racist skinhead who boo hood because McBush lost? maybe you are one of the skinhead couple who were crying on each other's shoulders at McBush's concession speach....sheeshus... honestly, I rather disliked both major candidates and would have greatly preferred to have seen Ron Paul or Dennis Kucinich be our President... here's some sound advice....don't make any posts on the internet if you don't want to get caught...proxies?...sure, they might work against the RIAA/MPAA and the like, but there are people with the ability to back track you to your very front door....do you really want them knocking?....I hope they do and string you up by your cojones like you deserve....and you would be lucky if they did, as if a person of my type catches up with you they will nail you to an X, tie a bucket to your scrotum and add a rock every day until the combination of weight and gangrene rips out your entire intestinal track.... |
Recently, a number of kids have been busted after posting, "anonomously" on Facebook and YouTube, their illegal activities. Simpleboy should get it into his simple head that if the gov wants to find out who did what on the internet, they can! They catch hackers, who know how to route through multiple servers across three or four countries. It's only a question of motivation. People who appear overly concerned about this issue are almost always they who have uploaded or downloaded stuff that shouldn't be on the net. And I too would volunteer to assist in their punishment. (Don't you love the part where sb says he's not worried if his family member gets the blame?) However, I think that assuming that simpleboy voted, and for whom, is stretching things a bit. And many McCain supporters are kind-hearted, loyal mis-guided americans, who would never post harmful material on the web. btw How about Ron Paul for Sec Treas? Hillary for HHS? Perhaps Sen. Frankin will make a real run for pres in 2016! (And Dennis K for Pres? Never happen - he's got too many good ideas, like Ron Paul.) |
