Australia crushed by the Germans

Dear Forum Members

It's World Cup time again and the game of the tournament so far has been the Germany Vs Australia match, and Germany won by an impressive 4 - 0.

Whether Australia will ever recovery from this crushing defeat and progress through to the next round (by beating Ghana and Serbia) is anybody's guess but personally I hope they do.

As for England, well they came out of their match with the US with a 1 - 1 draw. England should have won that match but for a silly error by the goal keeper.

Anyway, the tournament progresses with Germany (at the moment) looking like the firm favourite to take the Cup from the holders, Italy.

I only read about the Australia versus Germany game, but sounded like a poor effort by Australia. Certainly much blame was aimed at the coach's sudden change of tactics at the last moment before the game started with shuffling positions & line-up. Report was Australia went into the game lacking much of an attacking approach. Just after half time one of the top Australian players was red carded for something that didn't deserve it & will miss the Ghana game. Our previous coach was by far better but he has an approach of only coaching teams for one world cup effort each.

LOTR

If what you say is true then Australia, with all the best will in the world, doesn't really stand a chance because if your own coach confuse your own players, and not the opposition, then how can Australia play as a cohesive force?

As for the red card, it was harsh but it seems that the referees have been told not to put up with any nonsense from the players.

Anyway, the tournament moves on and I am looking forward to seeing the highlights of the Netherlands Vs. Denmark match (I can't watch it 'cause I'm at work).

You know NB2

As long as it doesn't go to penalties we still have a chance.

PS. Is there any correlation between Australia going out of the World Cup and the country getting a new PM?

newbee2 June 26th, 2010 03:53 PM

no it's always the same here!

as the famous irish philosopher said '' If nothing changes everything remains the same '' we get bumped out of the world cup,and have the same gvnt. for years!!
N2:confused:

Germany 4 - England 1 (2, if you count the disallowed goal)

Well NB2

England are out of the World Cup, the German side was much better in every way and deserved to win.

Nothing more to say other than roll on Euro 2012.

You might think they would finally implement some "behind the line" technology now, but I doubt it. That goal that wasn't was a disgrace on the referee and linesmen.

Who knows what would have happened if the team went to halftime with a 2-2 result to keep working on. I can only imagine how frustrated the England players must have been

I thought this world cup did really show how many mistakes are made at all levels of the refereeing. Some sports games now use video playback or as with cricket, a 3rd umpire who reviews the video and gives the other umpires his view if they ask for his opinion.

Goals being given not deserved? Penalties not deserved? Players sent off not deserved? In all cases, video playback showed how poor the referee decisions were. The referees were very quick to make a decision without even seeking advice from the linesmen about what they saw from their angle. After all that is one of the reasons for the linesmen AFAIK.

Luddites run FIFA

Well Guys

I thoroughly agree that new technology should be "part and parcel" of the modern game of football, after all there is so much at stake.

But remember, you always have the luddites, just like you had in cricket and tennis, always saying that new technology will change the nature and character of the game.

Nothing will progress until these luddites, who have the power to continuously say "no", have been retired out of FIFA, just like they've been retired out of all the other modern games.
