Has anybody tried out Firefox 4 yet and if so what is your opinion of it?

Only just updated to it. For the mac. Hmm difficult to get used to the tabs at the top instead of bottom. I do like some of the improvements. Handy having the Bookmarks menu option at far end of window I guess. On a large monitor saves reaching to the main menu bar.

AFAIK only one plug-in doesn't have an update for it at this point.

I had to downgrade a clients Firefox to 3.6.17 after he had updated to Firefox 4. Java button issues (with working java) and specific language spellcheck.

I might have been able to fix it but after almost 2 hours of tweaking I found downgrading the easiest (and for him cheapest) solution.

Firefox 4 has changed a lot to what FF3 was, It's a lot quicker, in my opinion. Still the best browser there is to me.

Is there a way to disable the icons for the Toolbar bookmarks? It crowds my toolbar bookmarks so much there's no space for all the bookmarks to display & forces me to click an arrow to access the other main bookmarks I use. I find this highly annoying. I don't need icons to know what the bookmark is. lol :D I don't see anything in preferences for disabling the icons. Who wants over-crowded bookmark toolbars?

ie: 3 of my regular toolbar bookmarks require me to press an arrow to access them because there's no horizontal space left to list them with the icons taking up so much space. The Bookmarks menu being on the far right of the Toolbar also steals space. Great for those who don't have many bookmarks listed there, but for me it's almost a necessity for quick access. If I feel miffed enough I'll go back to Safari (since I"m a mac user. BTW I still use both for different purposes. Firefox seems to lack some MacOSX abilities. Lack of research on their part I'm guessing.)

Not now for me. Seems jagged & crowded toolbars. It's like needing to reach outside the window to find my glass to fill it with wine because the room was too jagged & crowded to place it anywhere else. Good for windows users maybe. More buttons & options that were not needed on the main browser window. All it seems to do is crowd things. There's different names for it. One is am_bience (or lack of it.) One is ergonomics. One is chaos. lol :D

ie: if the arrangement of the program's tools & options slows me down, then I can hardly call it faster. All it does is make me hesitate, then access something I didn't need to do previously with FF3.

In the customize menu there is an option to use small icons. I make folders though for grouping related bookmarks.

BTW as for crowding, you can customize Firefox (at least v3) as much as you want.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll look at the option tomorrow though I don't see a customise option for icons presently. Yes I think I used small or zero icons on v3 too. (Likewise I use folders for bookmarks on toolbar. All those related to particular topic or forum, etc.) But v4 definitely looks more crowded on the toolbar, something I don't like. With v3 I customised it to reduce that kind of thing.)

Last thing I want is to have to stretch the browser dimensions. Affects my work flow. ie: having multiple programs running simultaneously & in view at same time. Is a 30" apple monitor big enough or do I need larger because FF has made things more difficult?
