Mother, five kids die in London house fire

A woman and five of her children were killed early Saturday in a house fire in northwest London, police said.
The victims were identified as 41-year-old Muna Elmufatish; daughters Hanin, 14, Basma, 13, and Amal, 9; and sons Mustafa, 5, and Yehya, 2,
Two others, believed to be the 51-year-old father and his 16-year-old daughter, escaped the blaze with burns to their bodies. The girl was in critical condition while the man was stable, police said, according to media reports.
Neighbors told SkyNewshttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2_11pxw.gif they awoke to the sound of several explosions before the fire, which gutted the semi-detached house. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/44652556/ns/world_news-europe/?google_editors_picks=true#.Tn8nL-yHgf5

I really don't use file sharing, just news stories. Is this a problem?

Crymomma

I hardly ever use my file sharing program any more, it's just not worth the problems that using a P2P app could stir up in the UK.

I, like you, like to look at world news because, whether we like it or not, we are all affected by it. For example, our western economies are flat lining and that has a direct affect on savers and pensioners (like me).

Also, I was watching something on BBC's world news about what the US congress was talking about last Thursday, which was to urge the US government not to completely pull the US army out of Iraq and Afghanistan. Also, how the Secretary of Defence is going to make budget cuts without damaging US defence capabilities. All pretty dry but interesting stuff.

Personally, I would like the US economy to pull itself out of this "bankers-made" recession so that the other western economies can follow. However, the US has to put regulation, and regulators, in place so that the bankers never again hold the US/world economy to ransom.

I remember once when i didn't know anything about file sharing, asked a question about it once on a forum, was told to Google it. At the time i only use a hand held browser, and my son had control over the PC. so file Sharing never concern me. I have a laptop now to do more things then before, and a friend teach me how to make my threads better. I would like to be part of this forum for my news stories, no matter what the news is.

Well Crymomma

Using a computer as a "learning tool", rather than just a games machine, gets my vote.

You see, because of computers and the Internet politicians find it more difficult to tell us lies, even though they still try. We are also more in tune with what is happening in other parts of the world, so we no longer have to depend on biased news reporting.

In fact, all in all, we are better informed and so can be better voters come election time.

Crymomma,

The main purpose of this forum is to share and discuss issues pertaining to the Gnutella network and p-p filesharing.

Your posts are in the right place, (the Lounge), where we go off-topic. It is one of my favorite places to visit; I thoroughly enjoy the humor, political commentary, and personal views from members the world over.

I have noticed that you often post news items without adding your own comments. Thus, I don't understand why you choose a particular story to share. The housefire mentioned above is a real tragedy, but the story is not unique. I would have appreciated your telling me why the story stood out to you or why anyone else here would be especially interested. After all, there was a lot of other news that day, some of which had a direct impact on me and/or other forum members.

The advantage we have here, as UK Bob mentioned, is that we can get beyond the headlines. Sometimes one of us knows more about the story than what is presented in the article. Someone in Europe might know something that my government or my news media does not reveal. We can also learn from one another's histories; my country's new idea may have already been tried elsewhere, and so we can be forwarned of possible untoward outcomes.

Don't just share the news, share your thoughts!
