But this tactic generated so much bad publicity for the authorities, and with anti-European politicians jumping on the bandwagon, that the legislation forcing the use metric measures was amended to make it use voluntary for small shops and market stall holders.

Supermarkets and above, however, still have to show both metric and imperial weights.

The upshot of all this nonsense is that you have youngsters that don't know what an "inch" or an "ounce" is, because they have been taught in the metric system, and people of our age group doing a mental conversions back to pounds, pints, feet and inches, e.g. 30cm = 12" (the size of an LP), 1 meter = 39" or 3' 3", 1 litre = 2.2 pints and 1 Kilo = 2.2lbs.

As for Soccer being more dangerous than American Football is highly unlikely, your guys have to wear body armour for protection because your football (which is more like our rugby) is a contact sport while soccer/football is non-contact.
