Limewire and gnutella

I still have a copy of Limewire on my computer. Is there any way to connect to gnutella and get it to work? Now when I try to do a search, it just sits and does nothing.
I know Limewire 'went away', but since it was gnutella based was wondering if there was anyway to keep using it. I have a version that worked after the shutdown, but my computer crashed and I could never get it to work again.
I am new to this forum, so excuse me if this has been answered before.

Hi Biker4216,

Depending on which OS you use & which LW version you have, using the connect fixes in the threads below may help. There are also several other connection tips:

If LW 4 Will Not Connect

If LW 5 Will Not Connect

And there are links to various installers & helpful info in this thread:: http://www.gnutellaforums.com/gettin...e-edition.html

Please post back if you're still having problems

:)

Chances are LW deleted the connection file as soon as it opened due to the connection file's modification date being more than 30 days old (it is not known if the period is 28 or 30 days or a month.) LimeStart will prevent this from happening & there is a specific LimeStart available for each of Windows, MacOSX & Linux.

There's also an optional security block list which will help block out the worst of spam but not all. But will also help to prevent the hostile hosts (bots) that are known to do other things other than spam, such as upload slot suckers filling your upload slots to prevent you sharing to others, DDoS hostile hosts, & survey bots that will browse you periodically multiple times each hour or soon after your LW connects each session.
