Default It seems nobody can dl from me

Hi group!

I recently bought a router to create a little network at home.It is a simple Neatgear box with 4 ports.I am still able to download from others, but it seems nobody is downloading from me anymore, and I suppose that means that the router is also a firewall.

The installation was very easy so I did not do much reading. If anyone knows how I will be able to share again, I would be greatful for practical advice.I also wonder if the fact that nobody seems to be able to access my shared folders is affecting my own downloading activities adversely.

Thanx!

Claus

I suspect the problem may be that the NetGear is acting as a DHCP host for your internal PCs... In doing this your internal computers are assigned IP addresses that are not directly accessable from the net (192.168.X.X etc) ...I have a Lynksys that does a similar deal. In my case there is an option in the Lynksys to designate one port on the switch to be on the 'public' side of the system... in other words it would directly accessable from the net. If you configure the PC you want to share from to operate on that port then folks should be able to find you. You will probably need to refer to the owners manual (yeah I know I hate to do that too).

Then again I could be totally wrong -

I am not certain that this is the problem that Claus is having... just a suggested solution -

With the Linksys I have I log into the router

- Use the user name and poassword as refererred to in the owners manual
- Click on the ADVANCED tab
- Click on DMZ host
- Enter the IP address used by the PC you want to be exposed At that point the IP selected should be 'visible' to the world

Thank´s Bobomon!

I think this rings a bell...I called a tech support person before even buying the router because I feared that DL would be impossible. And he said something similair ,though I did not understandf that it was about UL I thought he was talking about DL.
