The Morpheus Blacklist Morpheus is wrecking Gnutella for LimeWire users, which might as well be all Mac users. Over the last several days, I have been banning Morpheus hosts using the "filter" function. The results have been a much higher host count than I've had in months, and many more hits. However, entering the hosts is time consuming...so I've done quite a bit of the work for you. Download this document: http://home.netcom.com/~zerograv/mor...lacklist-1.doc It has the host list and simple instructions on how to add them to your client. I am not a "techie," and I've seen the arguments in this forum concerning this issue. Bottom line: this helped me, and I will continue until the LimeWire developers come up with a solution. Use it if you like; if not, don't. This is just the first list. I will continue to add more banned hosts, and will post them if people find it useful. Dr. Necessitor |
You could also download my (rather experimental) modified LimeWire client from http://mitglied.tripod.de/mdsgeist/LimeWire.zip , which includes an option to block clients according to their user agent strings from connecting to you. |
Fantastic!! Time to take matters into our own hands!! Dr. Necessitor |
A few questions from the new kid... I have been following all of this Morpheus stuff from afar for a little while, and philosophically I am good with the idea of blocking them. To that end I have on occasion added an IP address or three, as described above, in the filters section...only to have the same IP address show back up after I have removed them. But that's not really why I posted, it's just another curiosity of the code, I guess.... I was wondering, Krieger88: When I download your modified LW, how do I install it? It's a little unclear to me as to how to do that. I get the files, but then what? And how has it been peforming? I have added the list of blocked IPs, just for fun, to see if it has an effect. It might, but I've only just now done it, so it'll take a while to really see... Thanks, people. Peace. |
Oh, I see I somehow lost the run.bat file I used to add to start it on windows without having to switch to the dreaded command-line. - In that case you have to overwrite an existing LimeWire installation with the files from the zip file. |
