no connection

I logged onto LW today and do not have any connections listed. Also when I enter a search the "search" button remains greyed out. And the "shared files" light remains red even though it says I have 29 files. The only thing I did was delete the Java JRE that I downloaded through LW. But I replaced it with Java2 SKD,se v1.4.0_01, which also contains a JRE. I need this Java Program for other things. Would that cause my problems? If so can I have two JREs on the same system?

I think all you need to do at this point is re-install Limewire... It should find the new JRE and you should be back in business.... or I could be completely wrong - I just noticed that you downloaded the Java SDK... I think you need the JRE.

Hello!

Yes that is correct!.If you have updated your Java then you need to uninstall LimeWire and then re install it or an easier way is just to download the newest version and install that.

Well I tried that and still no good. I uninstalled LW and reinstalled LW 2.5.5. Same problem. No connection. I try to force the connection with the connect button in files, but it doesn't work. My internet connection (cable ) is fine. I can navigate around in LW, just can't connect. Would the java issue I mentioned cause this? According to add/remove, I have Java 2 Runtime Environment se v 1.4.0_01 installed along with Java2 SDK,se v 1.4.0_01. ...You mentioned that I should have JRE instead of SDK. ...Why is that? Would that cause this? I installed SDK because I wanted a compiler program and that's what someone recommended. Think I should change it? Also, I'm not sure if this is coincidence or not, but my computer started freezing up after I just reinstalled LW2.5.5. It seems like anytime I opened LW, after a few minutes it froze and I had to cold reboot (reset button) and go through scandisk. I just uninstalled LW again and am not getting the freeze ups. So I don't know what's going on... Any advice? Thanks, Joe

I am not familiar enough with all of the components but my thought was that the SDK may not have all of the components in the form that Limewire would want... since Limewire is a Java application (right?) it would follow that it Limewire is not happy that there may be an underlying problem with Java. Were it me I would uninstall both of the Java environments and Limewire... re-install JRE1.41 and then Limewire and see what that did. But then again that's me, I could be wrong (not a first!) ;)

Thank you for the reply, Bobomon. Yes I guess I will have to play with it a little bit to see what actually works. As it is now, I cannot have LIMEWIRE. At least not v 2.5.5 . And the link to the older versions doesn't work. (what else is new?) Maybe I'll try the other Java program. The thing is that I need a much larger program than the one that LW links to because I am TRYING to learn the Java language and therefore need the whole program. I'm sure I'm not the only one in this predicament though. Thanks again for your help. If I figure it out, I'll pass along the info. Joe
