Can't connect

when I click connect, it connects for a split second and then goes red. I just started using RoadRunner from Time Warner.

connection problems

I have the same problem with the new software running OS 9.2 using Roadrunner through earthlink. My IE works fine, but I get no connection to Limewire, though I could get one yesterday with the old software. It seems like everytime the software gets upgrade it works less well and loses functionality

Unregistered August 31st, 2002 01:07 PM

I have the same problem! I am also with Roadrunner in So. Cal.

Unregistered August 31st, 2002 01:13 PM

I have the same problem too since installing OS 10.2, up to now it has been fine. Hope there's a jaguar fix soon.

With regards to the person above me, did your connection work with a previous version of Limewire?

RE: Can't connect

I have been unable to connect today. I have tried reinstalling the program and restarting the computer, among other things. My ISP is SBC Southwestern Bell DSL in Southeast Texas. I contacted them and they report that they are not blocking gnutella. What gives?

Unregistered August 31st, 2002 01:19 PM

Yeah, I'm using Time Warner/Roadrunner in So. Cal. and they told me that they are not blocking anything either! Just wondering if it is a problem with the new version because I have never used any previous version!

Unregistered August 31st, 2002 02:04 PM

I'm having the same problems... downloaded vers. 2.5.5 today and it won't connect. Help!!

Julie Z August 31st, 2002 02:41 PM

Unfortunately I don't think it's just the new version. I'm still using 2.4.4 and I cannot connect at all today. I haven't tried to use it in 4 or 5 days. I'm on Mac G4 with 384 MB RAM OS 9.1

When I look at my Connections Tab, I see it trying to connect to the hosts (one at a time) that I've entered in my Options. Usually it is shuffling through a bunch of IP address. No more. My statistics say there is 1 host. It says that Uploads are being attempted. I will show 1 Download but when I look at the file, it will be 0 kb and then it tries to connect to other users.

It's kinda strange that I'm showing Disconnected yet I see LimeWire trying to connect to IP addresses...

I'm using Cox High Speed internet in San Diego, CA. I haven't tried calling them yet. Maybe I should...

Any other ideas?

Anyone...

It's not just CA having problems, it's not connecting from Canada either, so calling your ISP won't do much good. :D

Julie Z August 31st, 2002 02:53 PM

Andy,

Probably true.

et voilà August 31st, 2002 02:54 PM

cnnecting

try those address in the connection tab one per one and the press add
connect1.bearshare.net
connect2.bearshare.net
connect3.bearshare.net
router.limewire.com
connect1.gnutellanet.com
connect2.gnutellanet.com
connect3.gnutellanet.com
connect4.gnutellanet.com
gnutella.hostscache.com
gnet2.ath.cx:6346

one of them should work, press add after limewire has given up for router.limewire.com

macgurl August 31st, 2002 02:55 PM

mmm yes... I am in canada too.. and it isn't working.. I was on an older version until around 12 today when I got bored.. and decided to dumb everything and reinstal my os... and I downloaded the new limewire.. now it just flashes like I'm connected and goes back to red....

I tried on my Connections Tab to enter a bearshare one and it showed router.limewire.com for a split second and then it went away. I posted in another thread all 11 hosts I have entered to connect to in Tools > Options > Connections. None of them will connect.

weird

for me
connect3.bearshare.net
works now, but at first it was connect1.bearshare.net that worked....
I don't know what to say, but I'm connected with the method I described.

Good luck

Well, THANK YOU!!:D That one did seem to work for me. Yippee!!

Tried uninstalling, deleting all prefs, reinstalling, no go.. uninstalling, rename LimewireOSX.sit to LimewireOSX.zip, uncompress, reinstalling, no go.. (I'd love to know why it uncompresses as either a ZIP or SIT file).

Still no luck here, even with connect3.bearshare.net. *sighs*

Ok - here's a interesting change.. I can connect to connect3.bearshare.net now, and it fills up with server.. at which point they all disappear after a short time.. I'm getting a whack of dropped incoming packets according to the Dropped column in the connections tab.

Starstreams August 31st, 2002 04:19 PM

Thanks JulieZ, the connect3.bearshare.net worked for me.

However you would think the people at Limewire would try to make it easy on us buy putting some connections to try on the front of their page: "If they were smart that is". Kind of makes me wonder if the vehicle were driving is safe.

Gnotella 1.0.5 was still the best client on the net as far as I'm concerned Chat or no chat. I sorry it’s gone. :(

Unregistered August 31st, 2002 04:29 PM

Fascinating...

I tried a few of the hosts listed and none of them would work.

After I quit LimeWire, it apparently blew out its own preferences, because when I restarted, I got routed through the setup thingee.

connect3.bearshare.net worked this time.

Bizarre.

cant connect in NYC

Just update to version 2.5.5 and now will not connect. Have Time Warner in NYC. Never had problems until today - goes to red. I ran the test to see if my ISP has blocked gnutella (enter "telnet 64.61.25.171 6346" under Run in the Start menu -- and it appears that TW is blocking OR that 2.5.5 doesn't work.) Hope they fix.

about connecting to the gnutella network

I am using iswipe for powermac.
It shows that the gnutella(local) is showing zero files available.
It also shows gnutella(global) with 53.2 million files available, Hotline with 2.8 million, Carracho with 1.1 million and OpenNapster with 11.7 million files available.

This problem started two days ago. I thought it was because of an upgrade to 2.5.5, but that was not to be the case. Gnutella is not releasing any information regarding their local network being down. AudioGalaxy is up. Better to be patient, or for you mac users, you can get iswipe (beta version). It works alright, but you won't be able to see the gnutella (local) network, but you can still rip from the other networks.
